This #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, one of the CIBSE Members shares what small practical actions create more supportive workplaces.
Martin shared that, as an engineer with ADHD, clearly summarising responsibilities and deadlines at the end of meetings helped him ensure he knew the actions he needed to take.
Small actions can make a meaningful difference.

CIBSE’s Technical Director, Dr Anastasia Mylona, recently joined BBC Radio 4 to discuss our new heat pump factsheet and System Criteria Guide developed by CIBSE's Domestic Building Services Panel (DBSP).
With growing interest in low-carbon heating, the conversation highlighted an important message: installing a heat pump is not a simple swap. It requires a whole-house approach, independent advice and careful design to ensure systems perform efficiently and deliver real benefits for homeowners.
Our new guidance has been developed to cut through confusion and help homeowners ask the right questions, so they can make informed decisions about their low-carbon future.
This is a strong example of CIBSE providing clear, practical expertise to support the transition to net zero.

The impact of heat pumps could be transformative.🪄
By 2030, heat pumps could reduce global CO₂ emissions by at least 500 million tonnes.
That’s roughly equal to the annual emissions of all cars across Europe today. 🚗💨
The potential is enormous, but unlocking it depends on scaling deployment while ensuring systems are designed and delivered to perform as intended.
At CIBSE, we are supporting the profession with the knowledge, standards and guidance needed to make low-carbon heating work in practice.

We’re pleased to share that Mike Burton, Vice President of CIBSE, will be serving as a judge at the European Women in Construction & Engineering Awards 2026, taking place on 21 May in London.
The awards recognise and celebrate the most outstanding women across construction and engineering throughout Europe, shining a light on the individuals helping to shape the future of these industries. Their aim is to inspire more women to consider careers in the built environment, create visible role models and encourage organisations to strengthen their commitment to attracting, employing and developing female talent.
Mike’s involvement reflects CIBSE’s ongoing commitment to supporting diversity, inclusion and excellence across the sector and to championing the talent driving positive change in engineering and construction.
Good luck to all nominees and finalists on the night!
