A masterpiece of Brutalism or one of Dublin’s ugliest buildings?
Opinions are divided on the Phibsborough Tower, but together with the floodlights of Dalymount Park and the Spire of St. Peter’s Church they symbolise the heart of this urban village.
Financed by Canadian developer Galen Weston, and designed by architect David Keane, it replaced twenty Victorian cottages, and was opened by Noel Lemass, parliamentary secretary to the Minister for Finance Charles Haughey in 1969.
In April of this year a company named ‘Stormborn Capital Acquisition Three’ applied for planning permission to convert the block to a hotel with 150 bedrooms. The plans also propose new student housing and a market hall, as well as attractive landscaping to replace the ground level surface car parking.
Let’s see how it goes. It could well be a positive development, particularly if the new stadium for Bohemians comes on stream at the same time.
We want the European family to grow!
And @thegreenparty wants to rejoin the EU!
This divorce hasn’t been good for the people of the UK and their economy.
The EU needs to continue opening its doors to those who share its values.
Welcoming more members to the EU must remain a strategic priority for peace and stability.
On this Europe Day, Green leader say it loud: the EU needs to enlarge! Not only the UK, but also the Western Balkans, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Iceland as well as other countries who have the aspiration to join and are ready to take the necessary steps.
Unity is the way forward.
The European Union is the antidote to fascism. Only through Europe can we guarantee peace in our times.
Remembering our past and learning from it is the only way to not repeat it.
The far right only cares about one thing: taking us backwards.
The Greens have always stood for progress, and we will continue to fight for our futures, and against the far right.
Green leaders from all over Europe have come together today to reaffirm this commitment.
For a future of peace and prosperity.
For a future free from fascism.
For a future where our energy sources are clean, cheap and European.
A better future for all of us.
Wind, sun and water power can’t be controlled by the whims of autocrats.
The sun can’t get bombed and the wind can’t get trapped in the Strait of Hormuz.
Our fossil fuel addiction is making us vulnerable.
Energy independence = European independence.
We need a windfall tax on the excessive profit of fossil fuel companies, who are profiting from the current wars. Greens would invest that profit in renewable energy for a safer, greener future.
The time for renewable solar, wind and geothermal energy is now.
Lots of working on the move over the last few weeks, and a lot of travel, both fast and slow. My favourite? Budapest Keleti railway Station, setting off on a night-train to Stuttgart in the first pic.
Some highlights? Street-lights and church spires, but also water bowls for dogs on a Lithuanian train, and the warm reception in Riga from our Green member party Progresǐvie conference, as well as from our Serbian colleagues in Zeleno-levi front (ZLF), and of course catching up with Zack Polanski in Manchester and Cardiff in recent days. as well as English, Welsh and Northern Ireland colleagues with my Euopean Greens co-chair Vula Tsetsi.
Best of luck to all in the English, Welsh and Scottish elections this Thursday, we're rooting for you!
Nice to catch up with @malohara and @greenpartyzack in Cardiff. Mal O'Hara is leader of the Green Party of Northern Ireland, and Zack Polanaki heads up the Green Party of England and Wales.
As @europeangreens co-chair I was delighted to hear Zack give a clear message that the UK's home is in Europe, and that rejoining the EU is a firm commitment from his Party.
With the Welsh Green Party hoping to gain its first ever seats in the Senedd with Anthony Slaughter and Tessa Marshall on Thursday 4th May, we in the European Greens wish them the best of luck.
GPEW Muslim Greens Co chairs @feslkhan & @asmagreeni with the European Greens Co chairs @vulatsetsi and @ciarancuffe . Vula & Ciarán travelled in to Manchester for our May Day Rally and help us to campaign for local elections. incredible and inspiring individuals 💚
Vučić’s actions continue to prove that he is not on the side of peace.
The President of Serbia needs to stop funding Netanyahu’s wars and respect international rule of law.
Absolutely magical. Handel's Messiah on Dublin's Fishamble Street this lunchtime, 284 years after it was first performed. Proinnsías Ó Duinn, 85 years young conducting, a living legend.
If you missed it, make a note of the date, it happens on Fishamble Street at 1pm on 13th April, every year.
