Ciara Roche’s first solo show at Purdy Hicks, ‘the wait’, opens tomorrow and runs until 28 February @ciara.roche The small paintings on paper and canvas by Ciara Roche (b. 1993, Wexford, Ireland) depict unnerving, cinematically inspired scenes — seemingly ordinary interiors that portray a world held in a permanent state of suspense. Lushly rendered with wet, quickly applied oil paint, the works create a sense of luminosity and movement, capturing timeless moments for contemplation. As Claire Keegan so beautifully writes, “The paintings’ elegance is in the omissions and absences, and the effect is both disturbing and mysterious,” inviting the viewer to “go in and imagine.”

I have a show - the wait - @purdyhicksgallery London, 4 - 21 February. Opening 3 February 6 - 8pm, it would be great to see any London friends there! The works in this show were made in the dark months of 2025 and early 2026. They are paintings that begin at night, waiting for something to happen, and then the Winter sun finally rises. Great to have this painting included in Push and Pull - Painting Then and Now @highlanesgallery an exhibition inspired by the Highlanes Collection with a host of brilliant painters both from the recent past and working today.
