I hold onto handwritings,
pieces of clothing that will never get washed,
because the scent is the closest thing I have to a hug now. I hold onto voice memos that simply say “Jessie, call me back,” because hearing your voice reminds me I was loved that deeply. Car rides feel longer now, places we visited together don’t feel the same because every street remembers you too. I replay the conversations we had, the laughs we shared, We laughed!!! I try to remember childhood memories as best as I can, so I’ll never forget them, so I’ll never forget you. I hold onto the way you prayed for me even when sleeping. the way you made everything feel safe, the way you showed up EVERY single time. I hold onto your love because even though life keeps moving, a piece of my heart stayed with you. Grief is not forgetting. Grief is remembering with love that has nowhere to go. And I’m learning to carry you in every sunset, every holiday, every milestone, every song, every quiet moment until the day I see you again Ma. Thank You Jesus for the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:17 that we will be caught up together and be with You forever. When the grief feels heavy, remind our hearts that this is not the end of our story. Our mom is safe with You, whole and alive in Your presence. And one day, You will gather us together again with no more goodbyes. Until that day, give us strength, comfort, and the peace that only You can give. Hold my family close, we will not walk in fear nor anxious for you alone. Is all we need to guide us through this season, especially this first Christmas and entering the New Year without her.
