I still cannot thank @seenstories / @seenhealth for telling my story! As a healthcare provider, I’ve been watching Seen Health Stories on Snapchat every morning to better educate myself on other humans and how they life- never in a million years did I expect to one day have my story told as well! I’m not gonna lie, hearing my story told back to me like this has been a mindf*ck to say the least. Like, huh, I guess I have been through quite a bit in my 30 years. I can’t wait to use the next 30 to continue advocating and spreading awareness about life with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Disability as a whole. 🤗♿️❤️ —————————— Meet The Nurse With A Disability Nobody wants to give this ER nurse on a wheelchair a job. Ryann was born with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and has been on a wheelchair from age 26. Dancer spotlight ✨Ryann Mason (she/they) Fun Facts: ♿️ Ryann was born with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a degenerative genetic connective tissue disorder that can cause frequent dislocations, as well as chronic pain, and organ strain/damage due to the break down of surrounding and supporting structures. 🚑Ryann has over 16 years of experience in the healthcare field. 🌈They describe themself as “a queer force of nature.” 👑 She reined as Ms. Wheelchair Virginia from 2019-2021. 💃🏼 She has been a dancer for 21 years, starting with being recruited for a Nutcracker performance. 💫 Ryann’s favorite quote is “fear is temporary, regret is forever.’ Ryann has been dancing with Infinite Flow since 2023 and has enjoyed diving back into dance. . HELLO THIS NOT A DRILL!! ♿️ • Coworkers, patients, friends that utilize UCSD Hillcrest for care- recently a QR code/survey was placed on all the accessible parking spots at UCSD Hillcrest! Please, I beg you, if you are a UCSD patient or a coworker/friend that gets it- I beg you to utilize the QR at the end of the video and explain the disservice they are doing to their disabled patients and employees by not utilizing their parking situation effectively. (Ya girl loves the new Bachman parking structure, but it’s still 2 blocks from the hospital.) • UCSD Hillcrest has SO many valet spots (that were at one time ADA parking…) that are NEVER filled. My Hospital’s Nurse’s Night Out @petcopark ! ⚾️🤎💛👩🏻‍⚕️ • Always love this event (when I can get tickets from the department drawing…)- I’ve never lived somewhere with a professional sports team (whaddup VA friends 😅) so I really love the community aspect of going to games.
