Well, I finally have a Directing Reel! 7 years of work cut down to under 4 minutes, which is both humbling and a little depressing. I’ve done some absurd things over the years, and I’m looking forward to the new absurd things I’ll get to do this year. If you like this stuff, let’s work together! Or not. No pressure. I’m not easily offended. VO by Ryan Barger. Full-res, sharable video on my website.
A couple of months ago, I was allowed to enter the @criterioncollection closet, thanks to a kind gesture by a dear friend. While I feel bad for forever sullying the good name of their brand by being there, it was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. The only reason I’ve made it to where I am today is that I tore through their catalog of films and supplements instead of film school. Or college. Or most of high school. As soon as I stepped inside the closet, I forgot everything I’ve ever known about movies (I.e., forgetting the name of my FAVORITE MOVIE), I sweat more than is medically recommended, and I failed to grab almost every movie I planned to. It was perfect.
Thanks to the team, who were so kind, patient, and knowledgeable. I immediately felt welcome and accepted, which meant more to me than I could express. I hope to be back one day, but just in case, I willingly posed for a photo for maybe the 5th time in my life.
I can’t think of a better way to end my 8 years at LWT than being given a trophy and told I was a good boy who did a good job. I’ve loved my time there and, more importantly, the people, and I felt incredibly grateful to celebrate with the show one last time.
