One of the most common questions I get asked: “How can I be both athletic and aesthetic?”
.
Answer:
I train my upper body for aesthetics, like a bodybuilder. I train my lower body like an athlete.
.
My split:
6x per week split -> legs push pull legs push pull (rest)
.
“Will my jump go down if I get to bulky in the upper body?”
.
Answer:
It makes sense on paper…if you weigh more with the same power, you should jump lower. BUT, in my personal experience, my jumps only went down when I went into hardcore cutting phases
.
My jumps were the highest when I was in a caloric maintenance or even a slight caloric surplus. I believe this is because the amount of strength and power I lost during the cut was more detrimental to my vertical than the amount of weight lost was beneficial to my vertical
.
TLDR; I train my upper body like a bodybuilder and my lower body like an athlete…and don’t worry too much about your vertical decreasing from training your upper body aesthetically.
.
If you’d like my help, DM me “coaching” …I have coached 100s (coming up on a thousand soon) of athletes increase their vertical and improve their physique 💪🏽🚀
