Let's say you recently bought a magazine focused on urban culture and important news about a phenomenal city like Philadelphia and you have creative choices you can make that signal to your readers and your audiences that you are working towards an aspirational ideal that will bring people together to celebrate Philadelphia Excellence in all of its complexity and build community. You have a clear opportunity to do that with your cover selection. So, should you run a health care ad leading with the word FEAR on the cover or use that opportunity to highlight the main protagonist in one of the most compelling stories impacting Philadelphia today? Is this even a hard choice? I think Philadelphia Magazine should do better.

Saw this guy at 52nd & Market and we gave each other the "we both have good bikes" look but going in different directions. I come circling back and he is pointing his camera at my van. I ask what's up? He asks me if I know what KISMET means...I ask him the same thing....he says it's his Mother's middle name and she is on the phone. She verity's that I do know what it means. Dude asks to follow me on IG. See's the first picture of me in my bright blue suit last Friday and he was like, YO, I WAS ONE OF THE RED BULL DANCERS at ERASERHOOD FEST...Philly is so small! Love it. We gotta strong connection out of it.

Stacking a few WEEK IN A DAYS in a row. Friday, I had an incredible visit with my film peeps Alex and PJ from Creative Outfit, a salsa lesson with Jaybird, dinner at Superette and a night of strollling Passyunk Avenue in full bloom. Saturday, after some necessary and fun yard work, bike repair with Uptown Cyclery, and some drive time with Morgan, Jaybird and I had a spectacular tour of "The Charm Offensive" with John Wind, catching the Noah Davis show at PMA which is truly brilliant, dinner of salad and pizza at Pizzeria Vetri and then an incredibly stunning "sound bath" at Calder Gardens, which was a sonic wonderland and then a nighttime wander thru PHL on a glorious night. Philly, despite our challenges, is such a deeply wonderful place to live when the moments all click together into a gorgeous tapestry of possibility, talent and gritty mojo. Go Flyers, Go Sixers, get back to back to fightin', you Phillies. I Love Philadelphia!

For the 127th time in history, spring has arrived at 6503 Lincoln Drive. We purchased this home in the summer of its 110th year. We are grateful stewards of this gorgeous pile of stone, wood, slate and glass. Hopefully we can share many more birthdays with this wonderful home.

Tanti Lina, Lead Lab represent, suggest I meet Sara Falco who is the Creative Dirextor for the upcoming Eraserhood Festival on May 1st. So, why not meet at The Rail Park where the event will take place and considering the bluebird conditions there was no better spot for our hijinks than The Barkan Bench, whaddup Ari Barkan! Quite the Photo Booth frame.

Our Pizza & Paella Throwdown was a swell time. We had a wonderful collection of people here. Masimilliano absolutely crushed his pizza selections and his slow burn of one after another is a great way to keep a festive crowd on the edge of their seats. I made a lightly breaded artichoke heart and longhots appetizer that I followed with two paellas. The first was a squid ink black rice paella with clams, mussels, squid rings, shrimp, sausage, chicken thighs, peppers, onions and tomato and the second was a more traditional paella without the chicken and sausage so that our pescatarians could also enjoy the paella. It was a fabulous collection of many different people, some great tunes and a warm fire. Temps dropped about 25 degrees after the sun went down as we were reminded that the beginning of April can be a fickle friend. All told, we had a lovely experience and the delicious combination of sumptuous pizza followed by a hearty paella was a big hit. More to come for sure as the first event of the season is always a huge lift. I loved working with Masimilliano. Jessica, as always, was an incredible help in everything. We had my son Morgan, Huey, Joseph, Noemi and Khora on support from the junior crew which added a wonderful multi-gen vibe. Massive thanks to everyone that came out to help us kick off the season. The Yum Yum Gang prevailed in our inaugural effort. Thanks Masimilliano. Pizza & Paella is a sparkling combo, just as we expected.
