It was a privilege to join the Fiji Girmit Foundation tonight to commemorate the 147th Girmit Anniversary, and the rich history and culture of the Fijian Indian community here in New Zealand.
The story of the Girmitiyas is one of resilience and sacrifice. That legacy continues today through generations now contributing to New Zealand.
Our country is stronger because of communities like this.
Today I saw firsthand the scale of one of New Zealand’s largest heavy vehicle fleets - and how critical it is to keeping the country moving. For businesses that run on diesel, global shocks hit hard.
Greater energy independence isn’t optional anymore, and that means looking at every solution on the table.
Visited @willandablenz today to see firsthand how they are helping Kiwis build skills and confidence in supported employment.
I met some awesome folk who work there and heard their stories - many who have worked there for over a decade, and others who have transitioned off welfare and into a job where they genuinely enjoy contributing to their community.
Thank you to the team for the warm welcome and for the important work you do supporting pathways into employment.
These senior students at Wellington College are showing what leadership looks like and making a huge difference in their local community.
They’ve raised more than $173,000 to help purchase a new ambulance for Wellington Free, through their school’s ‘Runathon’ event - with nearly 2,000 students running laps around their school.
An outstanding effort from an awesome group of young New Zealanders. Well done!
