In 2019 I released Subterranean Landscapes with Constellation Tatsu. It was an honor to join the ranks of ambient and experimental artists I had enjoyed, listened to, and studied previously. I still enjoy what @ctatsupurr puts out. They have great curatorial taste. Here’s a selection of my faves from that collection. #ambient #bayarea #modularsynth #subterraneanlandscapes
It’s the 6th year anniversary of my first solo release, Phthalo Blue. Go get phthalo’d!
This album was in many ways a record of my first experiments in collaborating with machines to compose music. It’s something I still love doing today. It definitely increases the probability of happy accidents, which was kind of an album theme 😄#bobross
There’s an undeniable freedom that comes from of offloading some of the emotional anxiety of composing when you are relying on a machine or an algorithm to help you. When it’s released, you don’t feel quite as exposed as you might if you put out an album that was simply voice and solo instrument.
In the intervening years, I’ve become more drawn to a simpler approach, exposing my own vulnerability by stripping it back, not relying so much on the machines. But this is a record of where I was at in 2017. #phthaloblue #sanfrancisco #ambientmusic #christopherfantasy
Cozy pubs, stellar pints, and medieval towns: recap of a sojourn through Kent, Surrey, and West Sussex.
We had no right to such amazing weather but I’ll take it.
As a fellow traveler remarked, “there’s no greater place than god’s garden of England.” Can’t say I disagree.
Today is the 7th anniversary of my album Subterranean Landscapes. I still feel honored to have released it with @ctatsupurr , who by the way is still releasing inspiring ambient and experimental music.
Before they linked me up with the album’s cover artist, David Armstrong, I had some other, more literal ideas for cover art, which I just came across recently. Swipe for the Nat Geo alternate source materials.
There’s a coyote that swam from the mainland to Alcatraz Island. Maybe it fell in somewhere in the Headlands and the tide brought it there, but regardless, it’s a big move. And now it’s subsisting on the local bird population, which is an issue since it’s an established breeding ground. The National Park Service says they’re going to “humanely” remove the animal from the island soon and release it elsewhere.
I had a chance to visit Alcatraz last month, my first visit in many years. I’m imagining what that first night for the coyote must’ve been like, staring across the waters, watching the city illuminated.
The generative #Eno documentary returned to SF last night, hosted by @theinterval . Spending 90 minutes with the master himself and hearing insights from director @gary_hustwit was a real treat. The film’s #generative design perfectly complements its subject, unlocking fascinating possibilities for cinematic #storytelling - a medium, as Huswit noted, that hasn’t seen much formal innovation in over a century. It’s a film you’ll want to revisit: each viewing reveals new scenes. Recommended viewing when it comes to your town!
