She's not just an actress, playwright, and director; she's also a COSTUME DESIGNER. I was so thrilled when @nctcsf invited me to costume design their thrilling take on HEDWIG starring the splendorous rotating talents of @trixxiecarr , @legallysammy , and sometimes @cmerrell37 . And this one was a particular joy because I got to build almost everything from scratch, which is such a rarety in designs these days. Based my color scheme on the Genderfluid Flag, to celebrate the binary breaking, code switching, victims of gender circumstance in this formative, messy, beautiful show. Electra Becomes⁠ April 20, 21, 22, 7pm⁠ Tickets are $20!⁠ ⁠ Meet the creator of Electra Becomes, our next Champagne Staged Reading Series.⁠ ⁠ Chris Steele (She/They) is a queer trans nonbinary performance artist, writer, producer, and activist, centering queer stories and challenging bigotry. They’ve performed with We Players, NCTC, Cutting Ball, SF Shakespeare Festival, and SF Playwrights Festival. As a writer, Chris premiered adaptations of Angel Street (Gaslight), Miss Julie, Troilus and Cressida, and Dracula with Poltergeist Theatre Project; debuted solo drag shows The Bride and My Grandmother Wore Pants; and adapted The Tempest for Custom Made.⁠ ⁠ Their award-winning drag persona, Polly Amber Ross, is on Instagram @pollyamberross . When you're an artist, sometimes you spend more than half a decade of your life chasing an idea that you just can't get out of your head. I am so proud of my artistic process, of how much I give to the art, of how hard I chase something that really matters to me. Thank you @gaz_online and @kayleighshawnphoto for capturing the magic. What else are we to do while the world burns but chase our most improbable dreams? 🎉🥳 Inspired by the groundbreaking work of New York arts collective 13P, and in response to the lack of clear career paths for fresh directing voices in the Bay Area theater scene, Poltergeist Theatre Project is excited to announce the creation of DREAMLIGHTING, a collective of 5 local Queer directors who will embark on a two-year journey to co-produce each other’s ‘Dream Shows’. This collective celebrates and uplifts the innovation, resilience, and the defiance of the queer arts community in the Bay. Queer artistry, community building, and political resistance have defined counter-culture and propelled the creativity of the Bay Area for decades. Working together with this group of brilliant, bold, badass collaborators is restorative. Misfit Cabaret had the honor of premiering “Lavender” from @pollyamberross upcoming play “Gaslit” at “Ghosted” this past November. Jordan and Kat got to see the wonderful first iteration of “Gaslit” several years ago, and when Polly approached Kat to write the music for the new “Gaslit”, Kat was beyond thrilled.
