I've been working with a team of people on a temple sculpture. It's been so good to collaborate with friends on an art piece as we move through this time together.
We are starting the spirals heavy and chaotic and old dead wood at the bottom. And as they move upwards and around they shift to more organic wood and fresh branches. Eventually we will weave the top together with fresh green wood and vines.
Building art gives me such a lovely feeling. <3
Tadaa!
The router mod on my table saw is done! I still need to build the router table fence.
This has been a fun little project and should help me do the joinery for my dressers. Looking forward to cutting some splines. :)
I took the top off of my table saw (the extension to the right of the saw, not the saw itself) and I'm in the process of building this router table top. Pretty soon I'll have a combination table saw / router table! :)
I'm finally done planing one side of the walnut. I'm using a sled and shimming/hot glueing the boards to the sled so they don't rock while going through the planer. Also, I'm putting wood blocks before and after the board to get the snipe off of either end of the boards. They came out great! Time to start jointing all of them!
This has been a fascinating process, doing hardwood milling without the standard jointer equipment. To do the jointing I'll be usog another sled and my table saw. It's time consuming work, but I'm having fun with it and can't wait to start gluing up the panels!
@davidsdowling helped me with some metal work and showed me how to use his MIG welder today. I'm adding hard points to the ceiling in my room for fun with rope - these are coming out great so far!
Time to mill down all this walnut for the dresser and bedside table I'm building!
The lumberyard only have these huge 20" wide planks, so I've been ripping them in half and cutting to the lengths I need, and next I'm going to use my planer/jointer sleds to give them nice smooth, straight faces. Then glue them up into the panels I want. :)
This is a really fun process!
Today's sawdust is brought to you by the audiobook "A Wizard of Earthsea".
