“Closer” is out now!!! ⭐️ Writing this dreamy song with @gwenjibillie and Duhbe for Carmen Hau’s (@hkmmman ) Fresh Wave film “Liminal” has been very fulfilling and funnn! 😃 It’s our first song together, and we became good mates while making it. In the film, this song is the couple’s favourite tune. It symbolises their bond in life and in death. 《尋秦記》…唔再係都市傳說！ In theatres only on 31 December 2025. What a privilege it has been to write music for this film alongside 陳光榮 and Kay. I only discovered the TVB series later in life, but I grew to really enjoy it. I know how much this story means to those who grew up with the TV series and novel, so I hope we’ve done it justice. Enjoy the film! Back in November 2025, I scored 《外面的膨脹》 （Expansion), a short film by the amazing talents of the 2025 金馬電影學院 (Taipei Golden Horse Film Academy). The 7.1 final mix session at legendary sound editor 杜篤之 (Tu Duu-chih)’s studio was such a highlight and an incredible learning experience! This piece you’re hearing is titled “Fantastic Flies & How to Catch Them” 🤣, incorporating actual buzzing flies (yes, there’s a reason) and the many vocal personalities of my talented friend @gwenjibillie . I even asked her to emulate flies buzzing in the opening—she nailed it! I’m so glad to have met the talents, the film cast and crew, the academy staff, their mentor, and the dean. I also met other great people during the film festival. They’re all fun, unique individuals who inspired me through their work and our conversations. Best moment? Legendary editor and academy dean 廖慶松 (Liao Ching-sung)—yes, the one who worked with Hou Hsiao-hsien and Edward Yang—liked my music so much he made everyone clap for me (even if they thought otherwise). 😂 I gave him a big hug after. Together with Punk and Kay, I had the privilege of writing some uplifting and melancholic music for the Chinese film 浪浪人生 (Row To Win) directed by Ma Lin (馬林) and produced by the acclaimed writer and director Han Han (韓寒)! It’s a funny and heartfelt film about a washed-up gangster who struggles to reclaim his glory while navigating the chaos of his wildly dysfunctional family. It also features an epic dragon boat race! Swipe right for a behind-the-scenes look at the strings and harmonica recording, captured on an ancient iPhone 13! Please excuse the fake-sounding woodwind/harmonica solos and the relentless click track—I’ll upload the final tracks in due course! The film is currently playing in theaters across China and globally, and has been the reigning champion of China’s box office for the past two weekends!
