I may never get published in Nature through my research papers, but I never expected to make it there with my photography. Looks like I’ve opened up a whole new path for myself lol. #astrophotographer #astrophoto #astrophotography #naturemagazine #science #sciencephotography

It’s my great honor to win second place in the Stars and Nebulae category at the Astronomy Photographer of the Year. Hosted by the Royal Observatory Greenwich, it is widely regarded as the most prestigious award, the highest honor in the field of astrophotography. The Veil Nebula has always been one of the most popular targets in astrophotography, captivating both beginners and experienced imagers alike. Its intricate, colorful structures invite countless interpretations and have inspired many masterful renditions. For this image, I chose a rather unconventional approach: instead of emphasizing the brightest and most dramatic regions, I highlighted the nebula’s overall contours. I also experimented with the color palette by incorporating SII (sulfur-II emission at 672nm) data. Typically, astrophotographers rely on a combination of Ha (hydrogen-alpha emission at 656nm, mapped to red) and OIII (doubly ionized oxygen emission at 500nm, mapped to blue/teal)—a classic “red-and-blue palette” that has become iconic in deep-sky imaging for its vivid contrast. In this case, however, I allowed SII to play a more prominent role. Its unique wavelength contribution introduces an entirely new dimension to the image. Here, the inclusion of SII shifts the dominant tone toward green, revealing a breathtakingly different and unconventional perspective on the Veil Nebula. #royalmuseumsgreenwich #apy17 #astrophoto #astrophotographer #astrophotographer #nebula #space #outerspace #universe
