I’ve been building homes in the Northern Rivers for over two decades now. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: It’s not just about the walls you build - it’s about how you build them, and who you build them for. There’s no shortage of horror stories in construction. Projects where things go wrong. Where corners are cut. Where clients are left in the dark. That’s never sat right with me. I started Chris King Constructions because I believed we could do better - for clients, for trades, and for the craft itself. I wanted to build homes with clarity, honesty, and ethics at the centre. No fluff, no spin — just the kind of work I’d be proud to put my name to. And we still operate that way today. We work with the same local crew, year after year. We reuse and repurpose materials wherever we can. We are working towards healthier and more efficient and sustainable builds every year. We put planning and communication at the front of the job - not the back. We treat every build like it’s our own. The truth is, I still love the work. I love timber. I love good drawings. I love the moment the scaffold comes down and you see it come to life. But more than anything, I love helping good people build something they’ll be proud of. So if you’re dreaming of a home that reflects your values - and want a team who actually listens and builds with purpose - we’d love to hear from you. #byronbay #building #byronbayhinterland #byronbayhomes #renovation #sustainablebuilding

We were proud to be involved in the extension of one of Brunswick Heads original wooden miner’s cottages, and happy to hear “extension,” not “knockdown.” Thanks to a thoughtful redesign, it’s now a sculptural blend of old soul and new form. The original structure still holds court up front, french doors and history intact, while a bold yet respectful addition brings in light, breeze, and flow. Think curved walls, soaring gables, terrazzo bathrooms, and a green kitchen that doesn’t whisper, but sings. Oversized windows frame lush garden views, and generous screened outdoor spaces stretch the living experience beyond the walls. This forever home is the perfect mix of old and new and feels just right.

Episode 4 - Reducing roof heat by up to 70%. At our Wooyung Project, Chris talks through how we’re using ADHERO @proclimaau on the flat roof build-up to help reduce heat gain and improve roof performance. Small details in the roof system can make a big difference to comfort, durability and how a home performs in this climate. #ChrisKingConstructions #WooyungProject #BuildingScience #HealthyHomes

Stewart from @scholten_group shows us how to apply SOLITEX EXTASANA ADHERO® by @proclimaau to the OSB roof at our Wooyung Project. ADHERO is a fully self-adhered weather protection membrane designed for walls and roofs. Once applied to a rigid substrate, it helps protect the structure from wind, driving rain, and external moisture during construction. It also allows internal moisture to escape, has superior UV resistance for up to 180 days of exposure, and helps isolate leaks caused by penetrations or accidental damage. #ChrisKingConstructions #BuildingScience #Roofing #ProClima #HighPerformanceHomes

Chris and Stewart from @scholten_group on the roof at Wooyung, talking through when and why to use ADHERO on the OSB. Bonding directly to the OSB creates a continuous, weather-tight layer at the outer face of the structure. No gaps, no laps lifting — just a sealed surface that manages wind-driven rain before it ever reaches the frame. It locks the envelope early, giving you control while the rest of the roof build comes together. Build it right from the outside in. #ChrisKingConstructions #BuildingScience #Roofing #ProClima #HighPerformanceHomes

Episode 4 — Why I chose rammed earth for my own home - the benefits, the challenges, and what it really costs. In this one, I walk through why we’ve chosen rammed earth out here at Wooyung - what it does well, where it gets harder, and what to consider before going down this path. It’s a natural material, locally sourced, with strong thermal mass and the ability to help regulate temperature and humidity — which makes a big difference in this climate. If you’re considering building with rammed earth, feel free to reach out — happy to talk it through. — #BehindTheBuildWooyung#chriskingconstructions#byronbaybuilder#healthyhomes#rammedearth

Chris and Stewart from @scholten_group talk @proclimaau — and why air, moisture, and control sit at the centre of a well-built home. Air tightness isn’t just about efficiency — it’s about control. Seal the envelope properly and you keep energy where it belongs. More importantly, you stop moist air moving through your walls — reducing condensation and mould risk. Build tight. Then choose how the home breathes. Open it up when you want.Close it down when you need. That’s how you build for this climate. #ChrisKingConstructions #BuildingScience #HighPerformanceHomes #Airtightness #HealthyHomes

In this episode, Chris talks about the reality of building a healthy home in an affordability crisis. High-performance homes—airtight, thermally efficient, better for your health—often come at a higher cost. But that doesn’t mean you have to do everything. Every project sits somewhere between budget and values. No one has unlimited funds, and no build is perfect. The key is finding where those two intersect. That might mean building smaller. Designing smarter. Investing in the elements that actually improve how the home performs—without blowing the budget. Quality, budget, timing—there’s always a trade-off. The right approach is choosing what matters most to you, and planning around it early. A healthy, high-performance home is achievable. It just needs to be considered. #BuildingScience #HealthyHomes #HomeBuild #ConstructionTips #ByronBayBuilder

Builders: Why You Need to Know Building Science Chris and Stewart from @scholten_group talk about @proclimaau , building science, and why understanding moisture and air movement is critical to preventing issues before they start. The more we understand how a home performs, the better we can build. #ChrisKingConstructions #BuildingScience #HealthyHomes #HighPerformanceHomes #MouldPrevention

Corndale Project — Renovation, Lift & Extension This one’s been a big journey. We relocated the original house, lifted it, extended it, and brought it all together into one cohesive build. What started as an older structure is now a much larger home that still holds its character. The brief was clear — respect the original building, but elevate it. The clients weren’t local, so this was a real team effort. Plenty of communication, plenty of detail, and a shared focus on getting it right. There’s a huge amount of carpentry in this one. The guys have done an incredible job — to the point where you can’t easily tell what’s original and what’s new.
