I also do non-skydiving things: Had the opportunity to take a team of the youngins to a competition that pitted us against 14 other 5-person teams over a jam packed four day schedule of events. I’m incredibly lucky to have my team, and also grateful for my team’s effort and commitment to both me and the mission while allowing me to lead them. To win first place against so many other highly qualified individuals? Mind blowing. We will be off to the next level of competition for a couple extra days and even more rigorous events; challenge accepted. 😎 Highlights of the past week’s events: Tactical fitness test- on an unimproved trail: about a mile of buddy carry/drags, running, low and high crawls, litter carry with one team member on it. Ruck march- only 7.5 miles, 35lbs plus weapon and water on top. We might have hit the only mountains in the area and twice over. Leader reaction course- an obstacle course of physical and critical thinking abilities to solve problems with limited resources. Ranges- M4, M17, M4 squad live fire, weapon stations involving disassembly & reassembly & function check of five different weapon systems. Tactical patrol lanes- medical, CBRN, and then a dismounted patrol with simunitions. Pool lane- tread water for a given time then swim across the pool while fetching a weapon sunk in the middle for time. Drill and ceremony- marching a squad through various maneuvers in a confined area. Formal board- an interrogation, basically. Chinook ride during nap of the earth flying- fun!

Two weeks in El Paso; it was fun to get back up to high altitude landing areas. I didn’t finish blowing out the ankle either, so that’s a plus! Rounded off the weekend putting jump 800 into the books, at the American Revolution Boogie! What better way to celebrate than a quick tube jump with a few shredders?! I don’t recommend wearing a tube like blindfold after a spicy deployment. (The D-bag turned 180° between extracting and line stretch). Sorted it and flew home. It’s been two weeks of being a student again, a “baby bird,” while completing the Tandem Instructor and Accelerated Freefall Instructor courses. Studying at night, working classroom and hands on training during weather holds, and jumping a bunch when conditions were good. Challenging, exhausting but *fun*! Endless thanks to the course directors/examiner, evaluators, mentors, dropzones that hosted the training, the fellow candidates, and many others throughout my journey!
