Sitting in the bassoon section with the one and only Chris Foss for a Wordless Music Orchestra adventure. LaLa Land live soundtrack with Justin Hurwitz conducting at Carnegie. A musical respite from our current political climate indeed!
Go @nchase.music !!!! 10 years ago I spent a summer between the library at CalArts for work and Susie Allen’s home, delivering books for this research, and enjoying Susie and @franpenz ‘s company for meals. The book is beautiful and a product greater than its inception thanks to your hard work, Nick. Congratulations 🎉 I am so very happy to see this moment of completion and take in the writing.
I haven’t found the words to express my gratitude yet. But, clumsy as my language is, I’m so lucky to have had the opportunity to experience ensemble music with this incredible musician!

The first 24 hours in Japan have been an incredible experience filled with a very deep happiness. Photos from Shinjuku Goen and my arrival in Ōme. Lessons begin today with Koumei Sensei! がんばります。
Here’s to 2022 and all the great memories: kicked off a global tour in Singapore and Malaysia, celebrated two 90th birthdays in my bassoon and shakuhachi communities, hosted very special house concerts with some of my favorite people and cats, spent a few months making music with kindergartners and got to play their compositions with friends, found my new shakuhachi and got to present my first performance of sankyoku music after four years studying with profoundly wonderful teachers, helped to carry that tradition forward and began hosting a study group with @adamrobinsonshaku , met with a bassoon student in person after one year of working together online, returned to the Alexander Technique and began training, and so much more. I’m grateful for the friends who have seen me through all the quick changes and who have been there to share in the fun!
