OPENING CEREMONY with Jess Ellis for REOME by Joanna Ellner. Jess and I love to tell stories through photographs. For REOME, we wanted to translate morning skincare rituals into a daily celebration, an ‘opening ceremony’. It has been an extreme honour to collaborate with the best people. Sending tremendous thanks to the gorgeous and inspiring humans at REOME, Joanna, Beth, Alessa, and Olivia. Thank you all for being so inspiring and for giving us a forever muse. I couldn’t have asked for a better collaboration with my REOME favourites and with my dear friend and creative partner in crime, Jess, who turns everything she sees into a masterpiece, always. ‘Holding Pattern’ series was inspired by a very stylish woman and her collection of gloves. Thank you Jess Ellis and Christine Serchia for inviting me to collaborate on this series. It was a lot of fun, from sourcing props at the ‘Feira da Ladra’ Lisbon to being on set, all of us in true creative flow. A special thank you to Dévé for this special ‘Carte Blanche’. A Valentine Call for Entry: Nape: the back of one’s neck. Deadline : 14 March 2025. Happy Valentine’s to our Valentines. Every year on this day we share a new valentine, and this year’s theme is very special. For the first time ever we are collaborating with a very special guest curator, the singular-in-nature, Rica Cerbarano @ricacerbarano . Rica has specialised in “pics of necks from the back” with many beautiful examples via her account @neck_from_the_back . “The collection draws from a very personal fascination about male necks, a fascination that became apparent as I gathered these images. I’ve used the term ‘morbid compulsion’ to describe this collection, a label I believe extends to all such obsessions people harbor regarding body parts, textures, or similar subjects.” When Rica, approached me to share her collection, I was incredibly surprised and thrilled, as these portraits are something I’ve always collected too. The origin of this collection began with a very special photograph by a very special photographer which actually also has a very special story to it... that I will save for another time. For this year’s Valentine theme, we are seeking photographs of NAPE; portraits of the back of one’s neck, as our fifth publication, which will be curated in collaboration with Rica. Please find our entry details and guidelines below and feel free to share this call with others whose work you would like to see included. Thank you to everyone who submits their work or shares our open call. We can not wait to see your beautiful photographs. Sincerely Yours, VALENTINE EDITIONS @valentineeditions @chreees and our very special guest curator Rica Cerbarano @ricacerbarano . Featured photograph by Phil Hewitt @philhewitt #valentineeditions _______ Entry Guidelines Please email up to 3 images (can be in colour or black and white) via a non-expiring link to [email protected] with your full name and IG handle. Each submission offers Valentine Editions and its curators permission to print, publish, exhibit, distribute, and promote their work digitally and in print. Deadline 14 March 2025

“At its most emotive, photography can be a time machine. A device that allows us to return to a specific moment in time irrespective of life’s ongoing trajectory. Naturally, this is photography at its most potent, a tool for connection across time and space. Photography allows us to reconnect to the most delicate and intimate of moments. It can rupture our sensory grounding and take us closer to the people and places we long for. It takes us to the minutiae and the monumentality, the beauty and the coarseness, but, unjustly, always the ephemeral. Our lives become touch stones in the fabric of space and time, light follows the path of our existence, and we are afforded, by some infinitesimally small margin, to capture this path. Just for a moment, it places everything we do at the very centre. We can carry with us this event horizon of sorts, a moment that simply is. It is unshakably so. But how does photography achieve this? Put simply it is scarred. And so are we. To render a moment in permanence, the photographic surface is marked by light. It is carved. It is affected. For as long as we can cherish it, the photograph, by way of its very nature as a medium, bares a wound in time made upon itself. And we as viewers are not all that different. For us to be moved and to be touched by the past is to experience a longing that comes with it a unique and unmistakable ache. Photography offers us two things then: a return and a pain. Notos (return) and Algos (pain). Nostalgia.” -Words by Louis Stopforth on ‘Marked by Light’ featuring the work of Agnieszka Sosnowska, Giulia Vanelli, Kiowa Casey, and Yana Wernicke. It was an extreme honour to be invited to curate this exhibition for the second ever Bristol Photo Festival and to meet everyone who was drawn into the light along the way. This is the 32nd exhibition and the third year of @serchiagallery ’s existence. It was a great deal of work but a true highlight for many reasons - my personal top four of those reasons -being the experience of collaborating with Agnieszka Giulia Yana and Kiowa. Caption and thank yous continued in the comments xxxx

The Art of Giving. Join us from 3pm today. As a part of our curation for The Art of Giving, SERCHIA Gallery and New Journo are thrilled to unveil a beautiful edit of product shots by the incredibly talented, George Maund. With creative direction by Christine Serchia, set in Studio Serchia - a strand to the gallery which enables artists to create work for brands to explore and encourage collaboration - this selection from the shoot showcases just a sample of what delights will be on offer. Photography: George Maund @george_maund Creative Direction: Christine Serchia @chreees The Art of Giving | SERCHIA Gallery 24 Elmgrove Road Bristol BS6 6AJ Fri 29 Nov [3pm - 5pm] Sat 30 Nov [10am - 3pm] Sun 1 Dec [10am - 3pm] SERCHIA Gallery and New Journo are delighted to present The Art of Giving, a new approach to seasonal shopping in the form of a Modular Festive Market. Join us to celebrate the season, championing women and timelessly designed products in a low-key setting. Located in Bristol, the gallery will act as a shop floor featuring the duo’s highly coveted female-founded brands. The event challenges the perception of consumerism, offering a more tailored, considered outlook on gifting. It’s about the ceremony and rituals you share with others rather than the product itself: interactions, utilitarianism, and sentimentality, with quality and beauty taking front and centre. A small gathering will be held on Friday, in addition to the weekend opening hours, as a chance to chat with the organisers, surrounded by ambient music, mulled wine, baked goods and festive scents. Brand List: @soder_studio @homework.store @maya.njie.perfumes @wrightanddoyle @es.ceramics @naomibikis @pruzanrunning @stinekeinicke_studio @larolondon @mabel_and_co @studiodeve @louisa_charlotte_oates @pachadesignuk @tagalla.co And a beautifully curated art and publication selection from SERCHIA. #theartofgiving @new_journo #newjourno @serchiagallery #serchiagallery

No Body Besides. An exhibition by Tom Lovelace and Darren Harvey- Regan at @serchiagallery . “The most elegant and moving show in a space that mirrors the work… art at its finest, quiet and deeply affecting,” @naomilewisuk Thank you. Part II. To Tom. Now the show has ended (lol incredibly belated), I want to thank everyone who has made it possible. I’ve lost count of the unquantifiable times someone has said this show is the most beautiful they’ve seen this year - and while I’d love to take all the credit here’s who really deserves it…. Thank you immensely to @tomlovelacestudio . From beginning to end, everything about everything you do you make incredibly unique. And while the concept of each artwork is beautifully cerebral and thoughtful, you’ve made it accessible and universal. I’ve so enjoyed watching others fall in love with the work that you create. You are the kindest most thoughtful and supportive person and I’m so grateful to know you and collaborate with you. Everyone you bring into your orbit carries the inspiration you’ve shared and it improves the way we consider every single aspect of what we see. Thank you. Thank you to visionary Sara Sahores for being the inspiring person and artist you are. I’ve so enjoyed getting to know you and your work, and love what you and Tom create together. To movement artists @darcyjwallace @divija_melally @typhaine_delaup for carrying the psychological weight of photographs so beautifully, in ways I wish I could, and for activating this beautiful work so unforgettably. To the incredible photographers who made this exhibition so beautiful through their own unique vision and made it possible for those that couldn’t experience it in person feel like they were there: To the formidable Phil Hewitt @philhewitt Holly Fielder @h__fielder and Will Moss @wmoss5 my holy trinity of photographers who turns everything they see into gold. Thank you all for devoting your time and irreplaceable talent to shine a light on Tom’s beautiful work. To all who visited from near and far, celebrated, wrote about, shared, collected, or said kind things about @tomlovelacestudio ’s work. Thank you all so much xxx
