Further foraged forays:
Sorrel found growing amongst the grass, on the Lady Anne’s Way walking trail; picked, washed, chopped and added to salad for extra flavour and nutrition. ( I no longer go walking, without m’tubs and bags to forage! )
More foraged forays:
Oak leaf crisps (served with a 100 percent tannat red wine, bought at a wine cellars in Appleby)
Young oak leaves ( recommended month for picking is May), picked on the Lady Anne’s Way walking trail ( approaching Appleby) , washed, then a portion were baked and some fried ( tried both ways and preferred the fried!) , seasoned with rock salt and smoked paprika.

Walking the Lady Anne’s Way for 3 days with Katy, Chris and Andy. Particularly proud I managed to walk( approx 13 miles a day ) with a small amount of my belongings on my back and didn’t overpack for once ! Lady Anne of course travelled this journey in her “litter” … a Victorian woman who used her inheritance, doing up buildings on the route. Mine and Andy’s walked section of the way = Garsdale to Appleby ( Katy and Chris are to continue without us) Mixed weather from bright sunshine to icy hail stones. Gorgeous walking/ views …would highly recommend. Thanks to Katy and Chris for the planning
Good article on boys and men in dance in The Guardian this weekend. After a surge in interest pre Covid, there is now a decline again …lots of contributing factors involved inc 60 percent drop in dance uptake at GSCE and A level, as a shift to Stem subjects in the curriculum has been made.
From the age of 23, I taught dance and lectured at Salford University ( dance/ performing arts dept) for 25 years. Aimee was one of my Salford dance students and became a friend after graduation…..a friendship now of 20 years. She now lives and works in the Netherlands, so get-togethers are less frequent. Last night, after a few cancellations/attempts ( life getting in the way), we finally raised a belated glass to my 60th/ us. I love my Dutch gift of a ‘dancer’ tile, thanks Aimee….very touched. See you in the Netherlands, next year ( finally!) ❤️
“The Ballroom small plates menu” tonight, meant cooking in Norfolk, on an unusual ( to me!) cooker ! Andy and I, bought local produce, smoked anchovies and asparagus for example, for the occasion. Andy is a carnivore, so very easy to offer, as a veggie cook, this local smoked fish delicacy, which doesn’t need any prep. So delightful to cook for local Norfolk friends, Em and Ally and catch up ❤️
