So many hours of planning, scouting in the day, scouting at night, and so many other locations ruled out. So stoked for the alignment and all the epic tech that allowed us to pull this off without falling off any cliffs!”

Managed to sneak a Milky Way image(first of the season whoohoo!!!) with the setting moon and descending climbers from my last adventure in Sedona. My goodness it is a photographers’ and adventurers’ playground. I could spend so much time finding contrasting foreground against the beautiful red rocks and bluish sky. I was able to try one of the Light Pollution filters by Kentfaith and it sure did the job! I normally don’t like filters but it was so crisp and clear, allowing for an amazing capture of the Milky Way even under an approaching blue hour and setting moon. Multiple visions from last week’s lunar eclipse. Still in awe of the incredible experience the nature of Sedona provided. Amazing execution by @chris.ruel and Jakob Chew. Such beasts every step of the way in pulling these shots off.
This was a really tough alignment because on Cathedral rock there is only so much space to move around and align the shot. Also at different focal lengths I’m running close and afar from the scene. The moon also moves VERY quickly at the telephoto focal lengths(thankfully these climbers are pros and can stay absolutely still even that high in the air!). We have a 70 mm, 200 mm, and 600 mm focal lengths in this set. The blood moon is super bright in comparison to capturing the climbers and landscape so on a couple of those I needed to blend the different exposures. I also threw on a new light pollution filter by @kentfaith.official helping to reduce some city glow and even things out. So stoked on this and can’t wait for the next alignment. It’s going to be an easy one with the moon low on the horizon so hit me up if you wanna plan an adventure for 2029!

Lunar Eclipse 2026! Wow this was an adventure to put together! Legendary climbers @chris.ruel and Jakob Chew featured here atop The Mace at Cathedral rock in Sedona AZ. Putting this image together was such a fun project. Probably the most time and effort that’s gone into any one image I’ve done in a strike 48 hour mission. There’s so much that went into this which is unseen.
Hours of driving, scouring maps, and set ups. Multiple in person scouting missions for miles and miles looking for potential angles and alignments. A handful of hours of sleep so we could mimic the setting prior to the eclipse. Then during the event, the hours these beasts put into the climb, twice! Literally blood sweat and tears along the way!
This is an incredible culmination of specialized skills(climbing and photographing), knowledge and problem solving, true grit, imaginative creativity, and pure joy. I am so grateful for the team and the fun that went into this!
