@supported_loving , a Choice Support initiative, are proud to announce the launch of Past to Present - an exciting heritage project made possible thanks to National Lottery players and the @heritagefunduk
Through interviews with people with learning disabilities and the professionals that support them in Kent, Past to Present will capture and celebrate stories about love, relationships and sexuality over the last 40 years.
These stories will show how things have moved on over time, from people being shut away in institutions to living in their own homes and being part of their communities.
The collected stories will be brought to life by a co-created theatre production with our partners @SquarePegsArts public exhibition with Maidstone Museum and workshops for people with learning disabilities and social care staff. These stories about people’s lives, loves and rights will be held in Kent Archives, so future generations can understand what’s changed and what work still needs to be done.
A huge thank you to National Lottery players and The National Lottery Heritage Fund for helping us share and preserve this overlooked part of our social history.

There were lots of events to celebrate Black History Month throughout October at Choice Support.
But we had to share some of the excellent artwork that was produced in Kent, for our art club challenge, which paid homage to Black artists.
One person recreated a drawing of a dinosaur by American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, in acrylic pen.
And another person was inspired by Alma Woodsey Thomas to create a vibrant mixed pen on paper piece.
Drawing on Thomas’s signature use of colour and composition, the work emerges through an automatic art style, allowing the subconscious to lead the creative process.

People we support, in Kent, donned their caps and gowns as they celebrated graduating 🎓 after a year of learning and development.
The day was held to mark a year of achievement by individuals, who have been working hard on their; reading, health and lifestyle, gardening, woodwork skills and much more.
The red carpet was rolled out as families, support workers and friends arrived to support the graduates as they were handed📜 scrolls from The Mayor of Bexley, who attended with her Consort.
Speaking on her Facebook page, the mayor said: “Each graduate has shown remarkable perseverance, determination, and growth throughout their time at the centre, and it was deeply moving to witness their well-earned moment of recognition.”
A big thank you to all the staff team at the Ken Boyce Centre who made this day possible. And thanks to volunteer, Lauren, for taking the photos.
