R.i.p D’Angelo man, I wouldn’t even be half the musician I was today if it wasn’t for studying his records & live shows along with all his collaborators and not to mention the array of incredible musicians he’s had in his band throughout the years.
His records quickly became the soundtrack to my life for the past 10+ years. (Shoutout my big bro @calvinalfaro for putting me onto all the best music way before I was even ready to fully understand it at the time.)
D’Angelo was the first artist that made me step back and really dig deep into the catalogue of artists that inspired him - further deepening my love for funk and soul music from the 70s & 80s. He was a true innovator, pioneer & visionary. Even though I never knew him personally losing him hit deep and Ik I’m not the only one who feels like this.
