“You feel like what you’re doing is never enough… because the need is so great.”
When Sicelo Siziba from Ukukhula NPO visited CHOC, she experienced firsthand what happens behind the doors of a CHOC House.
Families finding comfort during difficult moments.
Children and teenagers receiving support while facing childhood cancer.
Spaces filled with care, dignity and hope.
Everyone visits CHOC for a different reason.
Some come to learn.
Some come to partner.
Some come to give back.
But many leave with a deeper understanding of the journey families face every day.
CHOC regularly hosts open days for individuals, organisations and community groups wanting to experience our work firsthand and learn how they can get involved.

Some journeys are about more than reaching the top.
The CHOC Walk Up Sani Pass is a journey of hope, remembrance and support for children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer.
Surrounded by the Drakensberg mountains, walkers come together to reflect, connect and make a meaningful difference in the lives of the families CHOC support.
Walk with purpose. Walk with heart. Walk for hope.

Today, we celebrate the hands that heal, the hearts that comfort, and the strength that continues to show up even on the hardest days.
To every nurse walking alongside children, teenagers and families facing childhood cancer, thank you for your compassion, patience, resilience and care.
Beyond the medicine, you bring comfort.
Beyond the treatment, you bring hope.
Beyond the long days, you continue showing families they are not alone.
Happy Nurses Day to the incredible nurses making a difference every single day.

Ringing the Bell for Hope and Healing
Last week at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, we celebrated more than the end of treatment, we celebrated courage, resilience and hope.
Together with @bravehearts_cc , @cupcakesofhope and @reach_for_a_dream , CHOC joined children, teenagers, parents, caregivers and the dedicated medical teams to honour an incredible milestone: the end of treatment.
Each bell rung told a powerful story.
A story of strength through difficult days.
A story of bravery throughout treatment.
A story of hope that never gave up.
Every bell reminds us that no child or teenager walks this journey alone.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate every mother whose love helps carry children and teenagers through a cancer journey.
The mothers sitting beside hospital beds. The nurses comforting families through difficult days. The CHOC staff and volunteers who care like mothers. The donors and supporters whose kindness helps families feel less alone.
Because motherhood is not only found in biology. Sometimes it is found in compassion, sacrifice, support and simply showing up when it matters most.
Today, we honour every person helping to create moments of hope, care and comfort for CHOC families.
Thank you for being part of the journey.

Every journey starts with a reason.
5 weeks to Comrades, for many runners preparing for the @comradesmarathon , that reason is bigger than the race itself.
It is about purpose.
It is about endurance.
It is about showing up, even on the hard days.
At CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa, we understand that same journey.
Families show up every day with courage they never asked for and they never walk alone.
This is where your run can mean more.
Support CHOC. Run for hope.

Awareness can save a child’s life.
A small lump.
A persistent fever.
Changes in the eyes.
They may seem easy to miss but for a child, these could be SILUAN Early Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer.
Today, we stand with families by sharing knowledge that empowers early action. Because when childhood cancer is detected early, treatment outcomes improve and hope grows stronger.
Learn the SILUAN Early Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer and help protect our children and teenagers.

“Some days are hard, but you are never alone.”
As a CHOC volunteer, Barbara has seen the strength that comes from walking alongside families through every high and every low.
Her message is simple:
Take it one day at a time.
Reach out.
Ask for help.
Because support is always there.
Volunteer with CHOC and help us keep more than hope alive:

Today we honour the midwives who care for both mother and child from the very beginning.
Your guidance, compassion and vigilance help families take the right steps when it matters most.
Early awareness and timely action can make a meaningful difference in a child or teenager’s journey.
Thank you for being part of the wider network of care that helps keep more than hope alive.

Endurance met purpose this weekend.
At @the_choc_cows 24-hour event, @sbbu_official reminded us what strength really looks like.
From the first lap to the last, it wasn’t only about how far you can go, but who you’re going for.
Every step taken supports children and teenagers, and their families, facing childhood cancer or a life-threatening blood disorder.
Together, we go further.
Thank you for standing with CHOC and for being part of a community that continues to show up, hour after hour.

Some jobs don’t come with time off.
Being a parent to a child or teenager on a cancer journey means showing up through long hospital days and sleepless nights again and again.
This #WorkersDay, we honour the CHOC staff, the caregivers, healthcare workers, and the families who never take a break.
Your strength is seen.
