It’s been an inspiring month on the magical island of Sri Lanka—a place I’ve found myself returning to over the past few years. In my time here, I created a body of work that reflects my journey into batik, a traditional Sri Lankan art form of which each piece is made by hand.
As an artist I’ve always been curious about the fusion of old and new worlds, both in knowledge and in practise. This body of work is an expression of what that intersection means to me.
Coming from a primarily digital background where AI and perfection is ever-present, I’m finding that ancient practices and imperfection is resonating with me more deeply. Traditional mediums are reflective of nature and are uniquely human, and by honouring the timeless art of creating by hand we keep these practices alive.
