About Those Who Remained:
/solo-show
A transformative multimedia solo show about finding one’s activist voice while navigating the complexities of identity, culture and tradition encompassing her unique Italian-Mongolian heritage, Sophia Gutchinov explores the profound depths of love through a deeply personal lens of Indigenous ceremony and modern dating. She weaves a narrative that bridges cultural divides, reflecting her background of a Buddhist father and Catholic mother. Those Who Remained incorporates projections, comedy, and spoken word, creating an immersive experience that confronts personal roots and identity. Collaborating with artists from diverse backgrounds – including AAPI, Latin, Black, LGBTQ+, and Kalmyk tribal performers – Gutchinov examines her family’s complex history, including her grandparents’ escape from WWII, her parent’s nomadic journey to…New Jersey, and her recent journey to her father’s homeland, all viewed through an intersection of acting and neuroscience.

As a part of our class, we have been exploring artistic self-care. This can have a wide variety of meanings for everyone. However, we wanted to encourage the practice across campus in order to combat the perpetual motion and rigor of the academic year. Here is a list of tips to help you get started:
Find out what works best for you. Spend some time exploring different methods of artistic self care and take note of what works and what doesn't
Get a friend to take a break from work with you
Schedule self-care into your calendar
Last but not least, don't be too hard on yourself
Let us know what worked for you!

Old Faithful: tourist trap or just a tenacious and reliable geyser with a troubled past trying to live up to the expectations placed upon it by an overly hopeful society of visitors and passersby?
The French trappers who explored the west in the early 1800's called the area a "bad land to cross." The Dakota Indians labeled it "mako sica" meaning "land bad."
