Tennessee Republicans just passed a law splitting Memphis' only Black-majority congressional district into three pieces, wiping out the state's only Democratic seat and silencing Black voters in one of Tennessee's largest cities.
The new map carves up Memphis across multiple surrounding districts, making it nearly impossible for Black voters there to elect their chosen representative. Rep. Steve Cohen, who's represented the district for nearly two decades, would lose his seat entirely.
This isn't about better representation, it's about power. Tennessee's GOP-controlled legislature drew these lines specifically to dilute Black political power before the 2026 midterms.
The NAACP and civil rights groups have already challenged the map in court, but the fight needs louder voices. Cohen and Congressional Black Caucus Chair Steven Horsford need to hear that people are watching, and that Memphis voters won't be erased quietly.

There's a new map every US citizen should see. It's called Stop Big Data, and it shows proposed data center projects across the US on an interactive map. You can find what's being planned near you, and take action against it at the local and state level.
That matters because these new data centers use massive amounts of water and fossil fuels and they’re pushed through approvals before local communities even know what’s hit them. Two impact creators on chilli, Hannah and Sean, built this map because communities need to see the threats before the permits are locked in.
In Utah, @carolinegleich is running actions on chilli to stop what could become the biggest data center in the US, a 40,000 acre project. That's 2.7 times the size of Manhattan. One private AI project that could swallow land, water, power, and political attention on a shocking scale.
