In March, BC introduced significant changes to the Intimate Image Protection Act (IIPA) increasing the maximum damages victims can claim and stronger protection to their identity. These increased measures send a strong message that intimate-image abuse and sexual exploitation are taken very seriously and that offenders will face harsh legal consequences.
Read our new blog post to learn about these changes, the supports available for those whoâve had their intimate image shared without consent, and how to apply for a Take Down order.

A recent investigation in Northern Ontario is shining a light on the growing dangers children and youth face online, including the rise of AI deepfakes. Cybertip.ca is reporting a 125% increase in reports of of AI-generated child abuse materials between 2022-2025.
As educators, parents, and community members, we all play a role in prevention. Conversations about online safety and grooming tactics are more important than ever.
What you can do: talk to your child about online safety and the apps they are using. Remind them that they can come to you if they need help. You can find tips on how to have these conversations on our website (link in bio).
Remember! Online child sexual exploitation is a serious crime, even when itâs created using AI . If a youth is affected by online exploitation, contact Cybertip.ca or your local police department.

Today, on Child and Youth Mental Health Day, we recognize that mental health and safety go hand in hand, both online and offline. đ
At Children of the Street, we know that online exploitation and unsafe digital experiences can have a serious impact on a young personâs mental health and well-being. Feelings of anxiety, fear, shame, isolation, and loss of trust can deeply affect children and youth.
Prevention starts with education, awareness, and connection. Young people are safer when they understand boundaries, recognize warning signs, and feel comfortable asking trusted adults for help.
Parents, caregivers, educators, and communities all play an important role. Open, judgment-free conversations can help children and youth feel supported, informed, and empowered to stay safe online.
Together, we can continue creating safer spaces where young people feel heard, protected, and supported. đ

Leave a Legacy Month đ
Leaving a legacy isnât about what you leave behindâŚItâs about what you leave ahead.
Something that says: I was here. I cared. I helped protect what matters.
This May, you can help create a safer future for children and youth by leaving a gift in your will. Your legacy can support prevention, education, and advocacy work that helps stop the sexual exploitation of children and youth before it starts.
You can leave a gift through:
⢠A set dollar amount
⢠A percentage of your estate
⢠A specific asset (like securities)
Every gift helps build a future where young people are safe, supported, and heard.

đą Talking about online safety with young people can feel uncomfortable sometimes but these conversations matter.
With recent changes to B.C.âs intimate-image legislation, stronger protections and supports are now available for people impacted by intimate-image abuse, including youth.
At Children of the Street, we talk with youth, parents, caregivers, and educators every day about online safety, consent, boundaries, and exploitation. And the reality is: young people are already navigating these situations online.
As technology and AI continue to evolve, itâs more important than ever to create safe, open spaces for conversations without shame or judgment. Young people need to know they can ask questions, reach out for help, and that sharing an intimate image without consent is never OK.
Education, awareness, and supportive conversations all play an important role in prevention and keeping youth safe online.
If you or someone you know needs support, the Intimate Images Protection Service is available online or by phone at 1-833-688-4381.

We had a lovely morning speaking with the Rotary Club of Coquitlam Sunrise to update them on the work we are doing to keep kids safe from sexual exploitation. They very generously gave us a $7,000 donation to help us reach young people through our prevention workshops.
We are very grateful for their many years of support â THANK YOU! đ

Our 2026 public awareness campaign has been live since March and has already been viewed almost 500K times on YouTube alone! đđ
If youâve come across it on TV, bus shelter ads, or social media, you know that this year we are tackling the harmful messages our teen boys are being exposed to online â 59% of boys have been exposed to manosphere content through unrelated searches. The campaign calls on parents to #HavetheTalk about #healthymasculinity NOW to contrast these messages which are impacting our boysâ wellbeing and their interactions with the women and girls in their lives.
đĽOnce again, we were delighted to work with the amazing team at @willcreativeinc who came up with this funny, empathetic creative; with Wirtz Media who help get the message out to the world; and with @yardstickservices who created an engaging landing page to help educate the public about this important issue. Thank you for your partnership and amazing work!
