Parents who are self-aware and supported are more likely to create safe homes for their children. For the last six months the CFA and @unicefjamaica have been working together to empower caregivers in the West, as a part of the joint Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) response to #HurricaneMelissa. Visit our website to read more about it or click the link in our story.

For some of us, Hurricane Melissa may be a (not so distant) memory. For others, they’re still putting the pieces back together, rebuilding their lives in the wake of the new normal created by the utter devastation wreaked in parts of our island.
This is true for the folks, and the children in particular in the Hewitt’s View Community in St Elizabeth. But they have a beacon of hope in the Hewitt’s View Baptist Church, headed by Pastor Dennis Mcogg.
Hewitt’s View Baptist Church is a Safe Space for the community and the children, who benefit from a special partnership formed by @unicefjamaica and their partner agency @childrenfirstja . Volunteers spend time in the community, to occupy the children’s minds and their time with positivity, in the midst of the mountain of recovery efforts still all around them.
This #ThankfulThursday, we’re grateful for community, for people like Pastor Mcogg and his congregation, for @unicefjamaica and the continued, consistent and often quiet, yet consequential work of its team, and their partner agency, @childrenfirstja and its team of selfless volunteers. And we are grateful for a resilient nation, that won’t stop working together until normalcy is restored. 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
It’s Read Across Jamaica Day 🇯🇲📚
Today we celebrate the power of reading, imagination, and learning as we inspire young minds across Jamaica. 💚💛🖤
At Children First Agency, we believe that every book opened is a step toward a brighter future. Together, we continue investing in our children through literacy, creativity, and education.
“One Book. Many Minds. Stronger Jamaica.”

Did you know that traumatic experiences - like a Hurricane - can change the way our brains work? This is especially the case for some children since they are still undergoing development and probably don't know how to identify their feelings.
Parents, If you’ve noticed changes in your child’s behaviour since the Hurricane hit, it may be signs of trauma. Today we're sharing five ways you can help them recover from a hurricane or any disaster.

After #HurricaneMelissa, many children lost access to safe places to play, learn and simply be kids.
That’s why UNICEF, in partnership with Children First Agency, set up child‑friendly spaces to support children’s emotional wellbeing and give them a sense of normalcy again.
These spaces offer:
✔️ Safe play and recreation
✔️ Psychosocial support activities
✔️ Opportunities to connect with friends
✔️ A nurturing environment to help children cope and heal
For children like Tajana, these spaces bring joy back into everyday life and provide a place to laugh, learn, play, and heal from adversity.
For every child, protection and hope.

Parents in Bartons, St. Elizabeth are now more equipped to effectively fulfil their responsibility as caregivers following a Parenting Session themed, "From Surviving to Thriving".
The initiative, which sought to empower caregivers by addressing subjects such as managing parental stress, positive parenting and communication, and child protection, is a part of the CFA and UNICEF Jamaica's (@unicefjamaica ) ongoing Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in response to #HurricaneMelissa, mainly in St. Elizabeth, St. James and Manchester.
Counselor, Dionne Levy addressed hindrances to parent-child relationships such as stress, and offered practical solutions to include self regulation, self care and compassion, to avoid causing undue harm to their children.
