Abusive head trauma is a serious and often life threatening form of child abuse that occurs when an infant or child experiences violent shaking or forceful impact to the head. The developing brain is extremely vulnerable to injury, and the effects can include permanent brain damage, seizures, vision loss, developmental disabilities, emotional trauma, and death. Survivors and families are often left navigating lifelong physical, emotional, and psychological challenges. The story of Dawn McCoy is a painful reminder of the lasting impact abuse can have on a child, their loved ones, and an entire community. Conversations surrounding child abuse must be approached with compassion, accountability, and a commitment to prevention, education, and survivor support. If you are concerned about the safety or wellbeing of a child, the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline provides 24/7 confidential crisis intervention, emotional support, information, and referrals to emergency, social service, and prevention resources. Help is available at 1 -800- 4 -A -CHILD Reaching out could be the first step toward safety, healing, and protection. đź’™ #Childhelp #ChildAbuseAwareness #EndChildAbuse #protectChildren #AbusiveHeadTrauma

Mental health is essential to every child’s well-being. 💚 It shapes how children understand their emotions, build healthy relationships, and feel safe in the world around them. When we support their mental health, we help them process difficult experiences, build resilience, and grow into emotionally healthy adults. During Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re reminded that every child deserves care, understanding, and the chance to heal. We are committed to protecting children and supporting their healing because every child deserves safety, stability, and hope. Support our mission today:

An unforgettable evening in beautiful Knoxville, Tennessee at the Les Trois Chefs Gala “For the Love of a Child.” 🕊️✨ Hosted by Childhelp Tennessee, the evening brought together community members united by a shared mission to heal, to protect, and to restore hope for children that have been abused or neglected. This year’s Kentucky Derby themed celebration featured Derby inspired cocktails, a bourbon pull, gourmet dining by Chef David Pickney with wine pairings, and both silent and live auctions featuring auctioneer Tanner Roberts, all set to the backdrop of live entertainment by acclaimed singer songwriter and fiddler Jessica Willis Fisher. Proceeds from the evening directly support Childhelp’s life-changing programs, including children’s advocacy services, foster and relative care, therapeutic support, and prevention education helping children not just heal, but rediscover their dreams. Together, we can change the life of a child. 💛 Be part of the impact by supporting us by donating or learn more at Childhelp.org and help change the life of a child. #Childhelp #LesTroisChefsGala #KnoxvilleEvents #EndChildAbuse #fortheloveofachild

Mateo’s* journey began with hope. After leaving Guatemala with his family in search of safety and opportunity in Los Angeles, he faced unimaginable loss with the passing of his mother shortly before the move. As instability grew, including loss of housing, mounting hardship, and emotional struggle, Mateo found himself at a breaking point as a teenager. When he reached out for help, that moment became a turning point. Through DCFS, Mateo was connected with our Foster Care program and placed with a newly approved Resource Parent who provided more than a home. They provided consistency, belief, and care. From day one, he was treated like family, supported, and encouraged to rebuild. With stability came healing. Mateo returned to school, rebuilt his confidence, and worked tirelessly to graduate, earning his diploma. Today, he continues each day with purpose, discipline, and a commitment to his future, supported by a Resource Parent who believes in him. In recognition of May being Foster Care Month, we honor stories like Mateo’s and the families who open their hearts and homes to children in need. A 12-year-old reached out to the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline feeling scared, hungry at times, and unsure if anyone would believe her. She had been carrying fear at home and was afraid that asking for help might make things worse for her and her siblings. A trained counselor created a calm, supportive space where she could finally speak openly. As she shared her experience, the counselor focused on helping her feel safe in the moment and supported throughout the conversation. Together, they talked through ways to cope when emotions feel overwhelming, and she identified drawing as something that helps her calm down and express what she’s feeling. 💙 They also explored trusted people she could reach out to and resources available if she ever feels unsafe again. Most importantly, she was reminded that she is not at fault and that every child deserves safety, care, and to have their needs met. Before the call ended, she said, “Thank you for listening to me. I haven’t been able to open up this much in a long time.” She left with a safety plan, coping tools, and the reminder that support is available and she is not alone. #ChildSafety #EndChildAbuse #YouAreNotAlone #HopeForKids #CrisisSupport

The Shining Stars Gala was nothing short of extraordinary ✨ Hosted by event Chairs Michael Agrillo, John Heneghan, Gautam Ijoor, and Alison Santighian & Peter Santighian , the evening brought together an inspiring community united by one powerful mission to support children impacted by abuse and neglect. As one of the nation’s largest and oldest nonprofits dedicated to prevention and treatment, the work continues far beyond healing physical wounds. It is about helping children rediscover hope, rebuild confidence, and reclaim the dreams that were taken from them. We want to thank all our volunteers, sponsors, and donors who made this night possible. We truly couldn’t have done it without you. From moving stories to unforgettable moments on stage, the night was a true celebration of compassion, resilience, and impact. Online safety starts with awareness, communication, and consistent action. For adults, it means staying informed, asking questions, and creating space for open, judgment-free conversations. For youth, it means trusting instincts, recognizing risks, and knowing when to speak up. Everyone has a role in building safer digital environments. The more we talk about online risks and healthy boundaries, the more empowered young people become to make safe choices. You have the right to be safe online. You have the power to act when something feels wrong. And you can always speak up. Support is available, and no one has to navigate online challenges alone. 👉 For more resources, tools, and support on online safety, visit the link in bio. #OnlineSafety #DigitalSafety #InternetSafety #CyberSafety #ChildProtection

We’re proud to recognize @lifeatgray for their partnership in bringing the Clinical Care Center at Childhelp’s Children’s Center of Arizona to life. This dedicated space was designed with families in mind, offering a welcoming and supportive environment for those returning for ongoing services. 🙌🏻 By creating a separate, thoughtfully designed area away from the main lobby, families and children are able to continue their care in a calm setting without being exposed to the difficult experiences others may be facing. This intentional space helps preserve dignity, comfort, and emotional safety throughout every visit. We are grateful for Gray role in helping make this vision a reality for the children and families we serve.
