Watching my sister lose so much blood and pass out in Nigeria was the scariest thing l’ve ever had to experience. I want to take this time to address the lack of proper healthcare in Nigeria and raise funds to give back to the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia, Abia state, where my sister was treated. If I begin to try and list out all that God has done for me throughout nursing school, I’ll be going on forever. My whole journey is a testimony, and after getting my first degree, I had a completely different plan, but God had a better one and redirected me to nursing. After initially missing the deadline to apply, the only school I was looking at miraculously extended their deadline to apply for the 15 month accelerated program. Even though I wasn’t prepared at all, my parents encouraged me to apply anyway because they said God reopened it just for me. There were so many moments of self doubt, but overall gratitude for all the things I was able to witness and experience. When I was on the brink of failing a class first semester and was at risk of being held back, I prayed and trusted God so hard even after my advisor told me to withdraw from the class because she said she couldn’t see me bouncing back. The night where I had to decide if I was going to withdraw or not, in tears, I opened my Bible and randomly flipped to Isaiah 41:13 ; “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” I cried even harder because I knew this was not a coincidence and that God was literally speaking to me in that moment. This program has taught me to not lean on my own understanding, but to turn to the Lord in all things. I dedicate this degree to my amazing parents, whose unconditional, love, support, and prayers carried me through. I want to thank all my family and friends who stood in my corner, and my sweet sisters I met in nursing school. Without my village, I truly would not have made it this far. Nursing school has been the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, but I give God all the honor and all the praise for seeing me through.
Tomorrow I will be graduating from the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston- Cizik School of Nursing. Two degrees under my belt. Ekele diri Chukwu 🤍
