feelin sentimental thinking about the silly sport of rock climbing. It’s strange to think how much of who I am was shaped by something as simple as some rock and some rope. There was a period of my life where climbing was everything. I’ve made the best friends and I’ve also lost friends. I became a guide and have stood on summits I’d only ever seen in photos, thinking, somehow I made it here.
That whole chapter of my life feels far away now, but I notice it in small ways all the time in how I handle uncertainty, in who I choose to surround myself with, in the fact that I still measure experiences by whether they made me feel that alive. climb on my friends

I listened to this song on repeat on a 3 hour drive through the desert dreaming of what this video could be. Here were my thoughts….
Sometimes you’re sent to a place, you live it fully, make it home… and when you try to leave, it pulls you back, again and again. Every corner whispers familiarity and strangeness at once, and no matter how far you wander, sometimes it isn’t done with you. This one is for the houses in our lives that never let us leave.

I made my first film in 2nd grade.
From there, I posted short films & music videos on YouTube every week. I entered every middle school and high school film festival. I gave everything to it. Then one high school teacher made me hate the thing I loved most. And I walked away.
For years I searched for my medium… 10 whole years. Drawing, painting, welding, writing, design. I threw myself into the outdoors and made art for myself in secret. Always looking for the thing that stuck.
Then I made a film with my friends. And I remembered.
I don’t take lightly what it means to come back to yourself. To collaborate with people who set your soul on fire. To be part of something that reminds you who you are. Sometimes you think you lost it, but the whole time it was just waiting.
More to come.

This year I’m not going to hold back on my experimental commercial dreams. Im thankful for the crew on this latest comercial that came along side my vision and elevated it at every opportunity. Keep your eyes out later this month for the final project. 😵💫

Shooting @shiftinglinesfilm emphasized the importance of letting what was in frame breathe. It’s easy to stop recording too soon, interrupt the moment. Sometimes it feels like a deep stretch of exercising excitement, training it - allowing the moment to unfold and simply breathe. From what was in frame, it was easy and frequent to be excited for this shoot. So, naturally - there was plenty of exercising.
We are now headed to @durangoindependentfilm festival to make the films 2nd viewing of the week on Saturday for their adventure sport category + Q&A.
