As I’m on this filming journey, I find myself most drawn to coffee shops, which I’ll aptly rename to *~*coffee communities*~* I feel so self-conscious filming in public, but I get so much life from the buzz formed when acquaintances become friends in our neighborhood nooks. I took out my NEW camera yesterday (more on that later), not feeling like filming, but pushing myself to try in prep for a few BIG events this weekend… Praying that someone I knew would be working, so I could get 👌🏾 to film behind the bar. Well, God must really love my gift, because I not only saw one person I knew… We saw 6 😅😅 Friends trying out syrups for their new coffee ventures. Friends working on laptops, remote and for a new business. Friends coming in to film for their content. Friends showing up behind the bar to serve the customers with the utmost. Thank y’all for making a nervous morning of filming into a blast. What I love about the coffee community is the collaboration over competition — especially here in San Diego. So it was such an honor that our city got to show OUT in hospitality to host the Int’l Coffee Expo, now called World of Coffee, welcoming coffee pros and aficionados all over the globe. Hey hi hello! A lot of you are new here so I thought I’d say hello. My name’s Ché, like the butter 🧈, not Guevara 🇨🇺 & I’m doing the foolhardy thing of pursuing a dream. For 15 years, I had the life… Leading creative campaigns for the biggest names. ✍🏽 (Like Mad Men — more Peggy than Don) I REVELED in my job. Imagination on speed. R&D across the world and country. Brilliant minds, unite. But, like everything else, my industry got hit. Bad. The magic of creating couldn’t keep up with the hyper demand for more, fast. I could stay in what I’d known, but it was no longer fun or fulfilling. And deep in the back of my mind… was this itch I’d longed to scratch for 20 years’ time: 📽️ To try my hand at telling stories, not through ads or websites, but VIDEO once more ~ As a kid, I so adored it. If you’re in town for World of Coffee & are looking for great coffee while you’re here, These are the shops I recommend. Note: my typical order is an oat milk flat white; I love to taste the espresso with a bit of oat, but hubby is a pour over guy. How to plan to catch the best cherry blossom view in Japan: Don’t. 🌸 We knew the most popular places to catch the flowers: Ueno Park. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. Yoyogi Park. These are the ones you see on social media. What they don’t show you: the HOARDS of people teeming below them. Not exactly my kind of viewing experience. Our best travel memories come in talking to people when we get there. That is how we found this park. This park, specifically, had hundreds teeming at the top for the same photo. So Michael and I took a detour down the hill… And what we saw, was my best cherry blossom view in the two springs I’ve been to Japan. 🌸🌸🌸 We also were able to get a better photo of Mt. Fuji standing down there, than lining up where everyone else went. Talk to people. Turn curious corners. Move opposite of the crowds.
