“We will never get over our grief, but with Chestnut’s help I have found that there is light at the end of the tunnel.” – Zoe
We’re so thankful that Zoe and Owen have shared their story, both as a tribute to Loui’s memory and to help raise awareness of our services.
If you can, please donate to your local children’s hospice this winter. Your generosity helps us to support more families as they face the darkest of times.

On Tuesday, we were proud to celebrate International Nurses’ Day at Chestnut Tree House 💛
Our nursing teams were treated to some surprise cakes, while colleagues, families and visitors shared heartfelt messages of thanks on our gratitude walls.
The kind words and messages shared were a powerful reminder of the difference our nurses make every single day - through their compassion, expertise and unwavering support for those in our care.
To all our nurses: thank you for everything you do
As International Nurses’ Day comes to a close, we’re sharing a special poem about what it means to be a nurse. It’s a heartfelt reflection on the difference nursing makes, every single day.
Thank you again to all our nursing teams for everything you do 💛

This International Nurses’ Day, we’re celebrating the incredible nurses across Chestnut Tree House and Southern Hospice Group💛
Through their expertise, professionalism, compassion and courage, they support patients and families during some of life’s most challenging moments - both in our hospices and out in the community.
In this video, some of our nurses share what hospice nursing means to them, what people might be surprised to learn, and why this work matters so deeply.
Thank you to all our nursing teams - for everything you do, every single day.
If one of our nurses has made a difference to you or your family, we’d love you to leave a message of thanks in the comments below.

We want to give a huge thank you to DJ Jonny for his incredible 36-hour DJ set — raising an amazing £7,091 for Chestnut Tree House (with more to come through Gift Aid) 🎶🕺
Jonny’s son Leo was cared for by our team in 2019, and Jonny told us the support his family received meant so much. Music became his way of coping — and this was his way of giving back 💛
The whole event was livestreamed in April, with people tuning in from all over the world — including the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Italy and beyond. Donations flooded in, and many stayed with Jonny for the full set (or popped in and out to keep him going!).
A big thank you also to partner Helen for being there with support (and importantly, Jonny says, the drinks and snacks!).
It was wonderful to welcome Jonny and Helen back to Chestnut Tree House recently and show them our updated facilities — and to share just how much more support we can now offer children and families.
Thank you to everyone who donated and shared the event. You’re helping us be there for families when they need us most.

This week is Dying Matters Awareness Week — an opportunity to break down the stigma and taboo around talking about death and dying.
At Chestnut Tree House we carefully choose our words to approach conversations around illness, death and dying. We know these conversations are never easy, but we also know that thoughtful communication can make a real difference.
In this blog, family counsellor Erika gives her advice for talking to older children and teenagers about illness, death and dying.
She says: "Parents often assume that they are protecting their young person by not revealing their own personal feelings – but self-disclosure by parents can be a useful barometer, helping young people evaluate their own experience and showing that it is okay to share."

For the first time, we’re sharing photographs of the newly refurbished Stars garden at Chestnut Tree House 💛🌸
Thanks to a £20,000 donation from Bupa Foundation, this private garden beside the Stars bereavement suite has been gently redesigned with families in mind. The space now includes a chrome water sphere, raised planters, a snug seating area and a new patio – offering somewhere calm, dignified and peaceful at an incredibly difficult time.
Stars is open to any local bereaved family, even if their child was not previously cared for by the hospice.
One mum, who used the Stars bereavement suite after her daughter Charlie died, told us:
“Being able to step outside while still having privacy gave me the space to breathe when everything inside felt overwhelming. In those moments, it helped to have somewhere quiet where I could gather myself before going back in.”
A huge thank you to our grounds team, who oversaw the refurbishment with such care and sensitivity, ensuring every detail of the garden was created thoughtfully and gently for the families who need it most. 🌱
And thank you to Bupa Foundation and Bupa Global for making this special space possible.
