Thursday, Geoff Rickly, and being an emo forever appreciation post. I FUCKING LOVE THIS BAND. They were one of the top 3 OG bands I was into when I was budding emo at 10 years old or some shit. In the 6th grade i used their song Paris in Flames as an inspiration for a short story for English class. Geoff Rickly was very much an inspirational person to me when it cane to writing anything in general. When I was hyperfixating on the Twilight books on Winter Break 2007 in 7th grade I would listen to 2 albums only: Dusk and Summer by Dashboard Confessional and Full Collapse by Thursday. They were a part of my journey thru music since those years and continue to be. I have had the honor of seeing them live 3 times as an adult, including the Full Collapse 20th anniversary tour at Doug Fir. This last show was so special to me, as I got to hear them perform another favorite album of mine A City By the Light Divided. Seeing Sugar in the Sacrament live was definitely something that I needed in my life more than I knew.
Geoff Rickly played an acoustic set in 2019 where he would talk about his time in Thursday and it made my adult self appreciate them more. Even reading the book he wrote has made me feel more connected with the music and the art he and his mates have created.
I just wanted to nerd out. Thursday will always be in my heart forever 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
✨️New York pt.3✨️ I wanted to spend all day in Manhattan, doing the downtown things. I got a bagel on the upper Eastside, then a pistachio latte, and enjoyed those in Central Park watching the giant squirrels do their thing. I walked around, happy there were still leaves falling from the trees. I saw a rat and got excited lol and then made my way further into midtown, ended up at Macy's, strolled time square one more time, just hopping around further south, being a city gorl, singing "New York City Boy" by the Petshop Boys after passing where 7th Avenue meets Broadway. I met up with a new friend in soho and we checked out aome shops and I loved the architecture ao much I couldnt stop looking everywhere. Lost a glove. Ate dinner at The Dutch (thank you @_the_bushy_butcher and @just_chado ) enjoyed another delicious meal, then tried to find a karaoke bar....they were all either packed or lame af...and after 12.5 miles of walking in 20° weather, I decided to warm up at the apartment, and I honestly just stayed in that evening, watched Ghost, and thought about how much I wanted to stay...
✨️New York pt. 2✨️ woke up and took myself out to breakfast at Ultra Fine Diner (thank you @e__sterling ) for some masa pancakes. I realized later that a very sentimental scarf of mine was missing and I decided to buy a new one in Ridgewood at this consignment store before going to a cemetary. We'll I ended up missing my subway stop 4 times because I was too busy listening to music and watching the city go by. Eventually I got the scarf, but it was sunset so I stopped at Topos again. I took myself out for a nice dinner at Aurora (Thank you @gothhomiehopper ) then made my way to midtown so I could see the tree at Rockafeller Center. It was very beautiful and the city was POPPING. Every corner I turned Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z was playing out loud somewhere. I was like shit, they really setting the tone out here lol. After walking around in 20° weather, unable to feel my thighs, I made my way back to the jazz club where I had left my scarf! The bartenders were so nice and excited that I found my scarf. I made a new friend (heyyy @ablivious ) and listened to the music until closed...
✨️New York pt. 1✨️// a dive into a city i have only ever seen in media. I stayed in a small apartment near Mrytle/Broadway. I loved walking around and seeing all of the graffiti covered brick buildings, even waiting for the subway, the views of old architecture was truly a treat for my eyes. It was cold, but the skies were clear, and the sunsets were beautiful. I met up with an old friend for coffee and v affordable Japanese food. I spent a lot of time in a bookstore/café called Topos, and made my way to the Brooklyn Steel for the Blood Orange concert. I cried during the entire set because music just takes me to that emotional state more often these days. I made friends at the jazz club a block away from my air bnb, and made my way back home early into the morning where I did in fact door dash taco bell.....
This is your sign to throw a 30th Birthday party where you create a lookbook of all the phases you've gone through in life and have your friends dress up as their favorite one 🎂✨️
