peace, i’m cierra and i’m taking over the Black Zine Fair instagram (night owl style) :) i’m a cultural worker, fashion designer, and teaching artist born and currently based in new orleans although i do claim nyc as my second home! i create as a means to internally process the undoing and rebuilding that comes with the journey of becoming a true revolutionary (in typical scorpio fashion, i am obsessed with death and rebirth likeee i kinda can’t escape it). i’ll be at table #65 with some wonderful offerings, if you’re in nyc on may 9th pull up to @powerhouse_arts from 11am-6pm and come see me! i’m super hype to share work at this fair for the first time amongst incredible black artists, thinkers, educators, and organizers. god is good! 💐 (portrait of myself included in the first slide was taken by the incredible @photofelli btw!)

(naive) map of africa made in spring of 2024 during my last semester of undergrad. forever grateful for the teachings from and conversations with professor okonkwo. since posting this i’ve been made aware that some countries aren’t depicted in their correct regions so an updated map coming #asap. i love me a learning lesson, so the critique is much appreciated 🫂

reflecting on my experience tabling @brooklynartbookfair , super inspiring 💃🏽 #clear zine made out of an unescapable feeling of urgency and my belief that we should know the meaning of some words and understand how they define the world we’re currently living in and how some words/definitions help us imagine the world we’re building. i enjoy independent publishing + propaganda production! may we all partake in the joy of zinemaking it’s a lil practice that makes me feel so free because there really aren’t any rules

i made 24 last thursday, i hope this new year feels as great as the weather does during this time of the year ina soufff some random yet relevant thoughts: i am currently reading “This Nonviolent Stuff’ll Get You Killed: How Guns Made the Civil Rights Movement Possible” by Charles E. Cobb Jr. and it’s got me reflecting on my great-grandfather, Zelma Wyche, and his organizing efforts in Tallulah, LA. i believe finally dancing ballet will heal meeee! very committed to staying sharp on all fronts! i sewed this plaid skirt last minute af, maybe we’ll see an upgraded version soon?

cierra isn’t just making art…she’s tracing lineages, confronting silence, and stitching her own name into a history that tried to forget it. Every piece she creates is anchored in a distinct and meaningful origin. #ErrorInSubmission Her full feature is now live. Read it on Substack — linked in my bio.

first solo mural is quite fitting for the journey ahead, i’m grateful — shoutout to god always 💐 thank you much to everyone who came out to the unveiling and to all the brains that joined together to organize it. may we all be more curious and serious about what we’re up against — there’s much work to do together (offline) and we can genuinely win. my absolute favorite word at the moment is #spadework ❤️🖤💚a
