It is with great relief that I can finally announce that I have resigned from the title of Miss Gay Texas State at Large and the Miss Gay Texas State Pageant System. I am so, so proud of the work I’ve done. Im proud of the amount I’ve raised to support the community. However, any system that bans transgender women from receiving the gender affirming care they need to survive and thrive is not a system I can proudly represent. Please know how hard I fought to bring the change that the system needed. But unfortunately in the end I was given a choice. Keep my position, or start hormones/HRT. And so, this concludes my time as Miss Gay Texas State at large. My life is more important than a crown. My well being, mental health and dignity are far more valuable than any title. I am relieved to be free from that environment. I am relieved that I no longer have to worry about being publicly “jokingly” called “stupid” or “slow” at events by a board member with no accountability or apology. “Reigning isn’t easy.” Is what they’ve posted. As if I failed. But reigning truly isn’t easy, not when you’re met with the constant hypocrisy, the peer pressure, the cliquiness, the lies against you, the insults, the isolation, and the deep sadness that follows. It was so hard. I don’t believe that is how anyone who has dedicated a year of their life to your system should be treated. I held on as long as I could. But some dreams just don’t turn out the way we hope. And that’s okay. I’m okay. I look forward to now living authentically, putting myself first, and healing from this deeply traumatic experience. Very few know what I’ve gone through this whole time. I’m exhausted. But.. In the end, I have no regrets. No one can take away the accomplishments I achieved and I am at peace with my decision to resign. Congratulations to the new Miss Gay Texas State at Large 2026.
