✂️ A wonderful ribbon cutting ceremony! On May 14th, Chinatown’s “Liberty Bell” dedication was held at the 10th Street Plaza. Chinatown’s bell, called “It Takes a Village,” was created by artists @chenlin.cai and @xingzi_liang as part of “Bells Across PA” with America250PA, Mural Arts Philadelphia, and community partner PCDC. The bell’s design celebrates the history of Chinatown, the contributions of immigrant communities to our nation’s history, and a nod to the Year of the Horse with a Tang Dynasty horse relief. Tag us if you spot the Friendship Gate within the design! Thank you to our project partners @america250 , @philadelphia250 , @america250_pa , @pcomeducation , @muralarts , and @thebellwetherdistrict for bringing this bell to life. We were honored to be part of the celebrations leading up to the 250th birthday of our country. 🗽 @repmaryisaacson and @marksquillaphl made remarks celebrating Chinatown’s accomplishment. We want to thank local Chinatown eateries @phillypho20 and @onezo.philly for the banh mi and boba. The Bells Across PA art series commemorates the 250th Anniversary of the U.S in 2026 by installing unique replica bells in neighborhoods across PA. If you’re in the neighborhood, check out Chinatown’s “It Takes a Village” bell at the 10th Street Plaza! 这尊名为 It Takes a Village 的华埠之钟,由艺术家 @chenlin.cai@xingzi_liang 共同创作。 #Philadelphia250 #Philly2026 #RingItOn #America250PA

May is AAPI Heritage Month. Throughout America’s 250-year history, Asian American immigrants have made profound contributions and sacrifices toward the nation‘s progress and cultural fabric. @america250 @america250_pa @philadelphia250 @muralarts jointly launched a large mural project #BellsacrossPA to paint murals representing various communities across the state on a replica of the Liberty Bell. Xingzi @xingzi_liang and I are deeply honored to be part of this public mural project, using public art to amplify the stories and lived experiences of the AAPI community. A heartfelt thank you to @NBC10Philadelphia @katyzachry for featuring our work and to everyone who supported this vision. We warmly invite you to join us for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for “America250PA:Bells Across PA - Chinatown Dedication” on this Thursday! • When: Thursday, May 14th @ 4:00 PM • Where: 10th Street Plaza (Intersection of 10th & Vine St) See you in Chinatown! 🌞☔️🌛✨ #AAPIHeritageMonth #AsianAmericanHistory #PhiladelphiaMurals #chinatownphilly

Chinatown’s newest affordable housing development (Man An House 萬安樓) offers 51 fully affordable units on N 9th St., serving senior residents. On the eastern wall of the building, Philadelphia-based muralist @chenlin.cai has created something powerful. Commissioned by @chinatownpcdc , the mural draws from the beloved “History of Chinatown” at 10th & Winter St. - a work painted in resistance to the Vine Street Expressway that divided the neighborhood in the 1960s, and in celebration of Chinatown’s 125th anniversary in Philadelphia. That original mural, by artists Arturo Ho, Giz, N. Phung, and H. Tran, overflows with imagery: railroad workers, laundry laborers, a family sharing tea, a father and son bent over a book. Chenlin Cai’s new mural carries that spirit forward - adding fresh color and new chapters to a story still being written. A partnership made possible by @pennrosecompany .
