Stop and stay a while! Part 1 of some Peruvian postcards I made and forgot about.
Missing, yearning for the days and nights I spent traveling Peru.

by bus and boat i made my way from Arequipa to Puno this past weekend in order to witness Earth’s highest navigable lake. home to ancient indigenous communities and dozens of inhabited islands with independently formed customs and culture, Lago Titicaca stretches it’s breathtaking views across the border of Peru and Bolivia.
isolated by vast expanses of water, it is not often that the people of the lake travel to the mainland. instead, large boats that house hospitals, banks and supplies visit the islands and their people rather infrequently. many of these communities rely on tourism to literally stay afloat during difficult times.
enjoy these pics from Islas Taquile, Amantani and Uros, plus my journey to Santuario Pachamama in respect of our great Mother Earth.

across the board, latin americans love their cars. strict laws make it nearly impossible to import vehicles more than five years old across the peruvian border, but that doesn’t stop the most avid car enthusiasts.
from supras to civics, datsuns to volkswagen beetles, car culture abounds in arequipa through legal (and more often illegal) car meets like this one.
thanks to my friends @fran.jza80 and @yercy.chq for letting me tag along.

for over a thousand years, pre-incan settlers have cultivated farmlands in the bottom of the second-deepest canyon in the world, Peru’s Cañón del Colca. surrounded by desert, it might seem impossible to grow anything here, let alone nutrient rich vegetables like corn, potatoes and avocados. but, through a network of underground springs, carved terraces and complex irrigation systems, the natives who live inside colca canyon have been able to successfully thrive for centuries.
colca canyon is also home to the largest flight-capable bird in the world, the Andean Condor. with a wingspan of up to 11 feet, this bird of prey can glide for hours without a single flap of their wings, using canyon updrafts to remain airborne.
so happy to have experienced this breathtaking adventure while meeting new friends in the andes :)
