Today, compassion filled the kitchen at @eatatblackies in Smithfield as Chef Angie and her incredible team volunteered more than 10 hours prepping, cooking, and packing 100 FAMILY-SIZED meals for neighbors across Rhode Island!!
On the menu: Chef Angie’s grandmother’s cheesy BBQ meatloaf with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, fresh vegetables, and fruit.
Every ingredient — more than 900 lbs of food — was donated without hesitation by blackies’ generous partners: 🥦 @rochsfreshfoods 🥚 @dilannafoodandpaperproducts 🥕 @baldorfood 🍞 @wherechefsshop
Each family also received salted chocolate chip cookies from upstart sourdough bakery, @sweetandsourdo 🍪 and a handwritten note of encouragement 📝 from the Junior Class at @wheelerschoolri — a reminder that kindness is all around us and matters more than ever.

I’m so thankful for every moment I have to enjoy my craft. Sometimes I forget that people go their whole lives without ever figuring out what they love. I have no idea what that feels like, because I’ve loved this, always. I’m lucky…and so grateful.
There’s something so special and intimate about cooking for a small group. Something kind of magical actually where the “work” or effort disappears and it’s just me (and a fave or two) and the food. It’s when I feel the very most like myself. The best version of me. The most authentic. I’ve had some incredible opportunities lately to just cook, and I’ve loved every single moment…even the really stressful ones. I’m grateful for the ability to reconnect with my craft. It actually feels kinda springy around here lately. I’m a fan.
A big thank you to the crew last night for my belated (finally have tastebuds) birthday dinner….lots of fun, lots of laughs & AMAZING FOOD from some INCREDIBLE chefs.
