This wasn't just a cookbook for me but my story! my testimony! for a lot of people who knew me personally who I was 10 years ago was a completely different person. for majority of my childhood, the streets raised me. dropping out at 17, fighting, selling drugs, becoming homeless again, with no real help, guidance. no one to turn to, so i turned to my art. my art gave me a sense of reality that maybe this was what i could do with my life. after that, i became determined to change the narrative of my life. I started Chef Bruja in a weird place, in damn 10x10 room i was renting out. when i started i felt like a failure when i stopped making clothes. i remember crying almost everyday disappointed in myself. not knowing that this was just Oshun's way of redirecting me to my purpose. i say all of this to say, no matter where i go in life, i will never forget my story and where i came from. Becoming a published author at 24 wasn't apart of my bingo cards thats for sure, but this is just the beginning for me. a lot of ya know me as Bruja the model, the artist, the designer, the chef. but my grandmother just knew me as Nena! (dont ever call me that😂) this book is dedicated to her. she taught me how to cook. i grew up back and forth from throggs neck projects to castle hill, but southside raised me! rip my heart. i wish you could see how much i've accomplished, but i know you are proud💘🥂 thank you to my team, my publishing company, for believing in me, my supporters. i wouldnt be here without you guys🥹🥂
