When you make food from the heart, it shows and heals simultaneously. Buffalo experienced a tragedy that took place on May 14, 2022, at Tops Friendly Supermarket. Unfortunately, another mass shooting took the lives of 10 members of the Eastside community. This mass shooting was not random. It was specifically aimed at the Eastside Community. I had already been in many conversations about mass shootings. Trying to figure out the root cause, what I could do, what we could do as a community, as a state, as a country to solve or even reduce this epidemic that we have become numb to due to frequency of the occurrences. I had gotten sick of the discussions, the social media comment debates, the rise of awareness, the story dedications, and heart-felt messages on everyones' profiles. I wanted to do something impactful before we moved on to the next mass shooting without taking any real action. I organized this dinner for the families and Buffalo's Eastside community. Reached out to @feedbuffalo and @gwmgbflo for their partnership, and they jumped on board. I got a few willing helpers, and we created an experience that brought new light to the community as well as the families of the Jefferson 10. So many things could have derailed this day. It was raining. It was done on a Sunday. It was on the day of the 911 memorial. We had some challenges with getting as well as putting up the tent. All the plans of making this event work were unraveling, and it almost didn't happen. But we pushed through all of those challenges, and with the help of some amazing servers, a sous chef, and others, we made the evening a success in celebrating each life that included the Jefferson 10. Thank you again to all who joined me in taking action on this day by using my gift in the culinary arts and service. It will forever be one of my greatest achievements and most valued memories of why I do what I do.

Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake, served with Salted Caramel and Vanilla Ice Cream. 😋☺️ This is certainly 🙅🏾‍♂️🚫 not a flex, I've been working hard at sharpening my pastry skillz on a deeper level for the past 5 years....I am proud to say I did not measure anything. I knew what the ingredients were and how to organize/ treat them technically. I made this with my fingers crossed 🤞to get the right crumb/moist level, flavors, and my knowledge of feel. It definitely gives me the confidence to create more on the pastry side of things. This was also my first time ever using suet as a fat or butter substitute. It turned out perfectly: Rich Decadent and the Ice cream.... iykyk 10 out of 10 👍👌👍🤌
