225ML - Inspired by Men’s Blazer as a symbolic item of Masculinity, this jacket serves as an attempt to portray and question the problem with “hypermasculinity” in current society. With younger generation of men increasingly becoming more obsessed with their Physique and unachiveable body image, extreme measures occure as a means to achieve the impossible. From commonly known methods such as Steroids, to literally injecting liquid oil (synthol) into certain muscle parts to make them appear bigger, Life-theartening attempts for such superficial goals are becoming only more prevalent.
Crafted with “Carnival-Satin”, a cheap, 100% polyesther Fabric that is intended for festive costumes, i aimed to display the emptiness behind a flashy surface. With the body parts that are commonly associated with masculinity , such as large chest or wide shoulders being ridiculously exaggerated through foam and support structure, the wearer of the jacket is forced into standing in a suffocating, restricting posture
Designed by me, brought to life by Jana Krieger with huge help from Carin Wagner
With the current time being as dark as it is, I have come to believe resistance does not necessitate Rigidity, rather resilience
Embrace the nature of your spirit and keep the lights on
