Friends, I want to encourage you to spend your Saturday with us in Murfreesboro, just off the historic square, to celebrate great music and guitar-building. @gallagherguitarco is again throwing Gallagher Fest, a guitar contest by morning and a killer lineup of acoustic music all afternoon and evening. I'll be your proud emcee. Hit me with questions.
There's a lot more to my Mom than her cookin' but I was browsing photos and I thought this one captured her generous spirit - and her amazing corn puddin'. Love you Mom! ❤️ #mothersday
Sunday was a magnificent day to visit my favorite 50,000 watt radio transmitter, the historic 800-foot-tall Blaw-Knox spire that has broadcast the signal of @wsmradio since 1932. I was there to help tell WSM's story for a documentary being produced by students from @mtsu and filmmaker Kathy Conkwright.
My message was that WSM-AM was a confluence of investment and people and imagination that changed American history. It created a beacon for musical folk while providing unending community service to the city and region through news, educational programs, variety shows, dramas and farm reports. It was a training and proving ground for the people who started Nashville's first commercial recording studios, country music publishing companies, indie record labels, and touring/booking agencies.
And last October, it turned 100 years old with a new studio and a head of steam. Never ceases to amaze me.
I got a Southerner's proper craving for fried chicken and finally remembered to hop over to Gus's on Dickerson. I've had the Memphis OG and I think it's about the perfect formula. And Dickerson IS the most Memphis road in Nashville, right? Homemade hot sauce. Pitch me a Gus's lunch date! My new East Nash go to.
Wednesday was a banner night for the East Nashville bluegrass thang. Our own @thesentimentalgentlemen opened for @ajleebluesummit at the Basement East. I love it when the top national touring bands swing through and play our club-like venues. @3rdandlindsley has been doing a great job lately. The musician community was out in force and the place felt just great. Killer picking and singing. This from an all-hands encore of freakin' "Matterhon!" Sully Tuttle does a fine Charlie Waller.
