FA20-T ➡️ EZ36. Change of plans. Since I blew up the 420hp FA20 from my drift ZN6…I’ve decided to put the EZ36 into that chassis then the silver ZN6 I was posting is going EZ30 Turbo (plus paint plus other stuff). This is a win since we’re making a EZN6 swap kit this bay already looks great and will be a way better showcase for the products.
Slides 3-5 - We’ve learned that the EZ36 specifically has a bad angle on one of the timing chain guides…at continuous high rpm / limiter it can slip. So we designed a Timing Chain Brace to help the EZ36 crowd…it will be available in a few months! Also replaced the chain and guides and bought a new OEM Subaru Cover to make the engine look 💯
Slides 6-9 - This is the wiring jumper needed to get the swap to work and add Fuel-P, Oil-P/T, IAT, and Flex Fuel. We’ll of course be selling this with our swap kit.
Slides 10-11 - Pulled the barb for the OE Water Cooler Oil “Cooler” Line and replaced with freeze plug.

One of the first and most obvious ideas for the EZN6 / EZ swap products, was a forward facing intake manifold. The stock intake manifold has proven itself to be very effective so when we started drawing we didn’t wander too far design wise. Just looksmaxx’d it and theoretically gave it some top end power since EZ30/EZ36 in stock form could use it. A part of this would be the ability to run stock or GR intake boxes for that OEmaxxing look.
This requires moving the alternator, because we’re ZN6 focused we’re putting it where the PS pump went. We have EPS on ZN6 so don’t need it. Don’t worry Impreza / Legacy gang we’ll make one for AC compressor side.
This forward facing intake manifold completely reshapes the engine and engine bay from the black plastic backwards facing. I think it’s the perfect balance of OE+ and Motorsport look. Game changer.
Also some other products were making: EGR block offs, Oil Cooler Fan/Shroud, and Anti-Gravity Battery Kit w/ Radlok / Circuit Breaker Wiring Kit. Lastly engines back out for some maintenance while we wait for prototypes.

Nerdy but fun EZ30/EZ36 ZN6 post. All the logic is in the second picture. 2JZ no turbo attached with R154 trans is 551 lbs for reference so 169 lbs heavier than EZ30. Not throwing shade to JZ’s I love mine they’re great, but damn if we can get 700hp with way less weight down low and farther back… 👀
Also 24k Gold @chasebays handbrake has me thinking about what color / accents to do on the Chaos EZN6 version of this…

3D Printed SS Header(s) for the EZ30/EZ36 ZN6 swap! @j.hunter.p said it welds incredibly well. So much thought went into how to accomplish this and into the design. We thought we’d maximized our brains. It’s interesting how as soon as you get it done and install it, you have more ideas for how to make V2 better.
Our production item will be a little different, mainly in where it collects both sides on the 2 to 1, how that routes to keep heat away from the oil filter sandwich adapter. It’s looking like the standard will be a relocated oil filter but we’re going to keep thinking on how to avoid that. #EZ30 #EZ36 #ZN6 #BRZ #FRS
EZ30/EZ36 into ZN6 header progress, wiring dimensioning for V2 turbo build, Chase Bays Engine Ground Kit, and where I landed on heater core up-hose.
Header and wiring are the biggest challenges of this swap. It’s very important to me to make this swap easier for future customers, I’ve had it with max effort swaps for minimal result. The handful of others who of done this swap did massive cut/reshaping of their subframes, which is fine for those who are down to do it. I wanted to design a header that bolted to the factory over-pipe. A lot of tubing and not a lot of space!
@nas_performance is an incredible Subaru engine builder who’s building our V2 EZ30 engine for 600+ hp. I was showing him some header concepts and he threw over this 3-1 stub design he made. We 3D printed it, made some changes, then Evan and I @chasebays engineer came up with the 2-1 Y to merge these awkward angles from each side evenly. This gets it as close to equal length as we can. It’s a pretty good initial design that accomplishes my goal, will make great power and sound, and we can focus on different designs later once it’s running to optimizes powerband and target GT3 RS type sound.
Other stuff shown how the heater core up-hose was done. The stock up-hose would run right into the header and is aimed wrong up top to connect to factory ZN6 heater hoses. Found this pathway shown that goes behind the mount / under the engine with ample room / no risk of hitting engine. Firesleeve will be added where it does pass under the engine for additional vibration and heat protection.
