The sea doesnāt care who you are ā but this year, it met its match.
Once again, I had the immense honor of racing in the
@harvestmoonregatta with one of the fiercest, smartest, most resilient crews on the water ā
@badgirlsailboatracing . We werenāt just sailing; we were making waves in more ways than one. As one of the only all-women teams in the race, we opened our sails and our stories to the documentary crew of
@chartingnewcoursesdoc , letting them capture what it really means to be women in a sport that doesnāt always expect us ā let alone celebrate us ā at the helm.
This year was anything but smooth sailing.
Back in January, disaster struck. An electrical fire broke out on the boat while we were out on the water. Sparks, smoke, and chaos ā in seconds, nearly every electrical system was fried. The boat was torn apart and sidelined for nearly seven months. No power. No practice. No guarantees.
We didnāt know if weād make it to the starting line, let alone the finish.
But if thereās one thing my parents instilled in me, itās that I can do anything I set my mind to. And if thereās one thing Iāve learned from sailing, itās that nothing ā nothing ā can stop a crew of headstrong, intelligent, unstoppable women. Not a fire. Not lost time. Not even the ocean herself.
We only had two chances to race together as a team before the regatta. Two.
But we showed up anyway ā hearts pounding, sails flying, eyes on the horizon.
And we didnāt just finish.
We took 3rd in our Division.
And we claimed 1st among all-female crew.
We are Bad Girl Sailboat Racing.
