I was excited to experiment with the notion of using gingerbread shards as bark, influenced by the many examples of Yule logs expertly dressed in broken chocolate shards to appear as rough woodland texture…and of course I have to try every possible fruit and veg as shroomery 🤣

Some time ago, Lisa the Instagram Buttercream Queen posted a viral dragon scales pattern cake, which blended colors to appear as if iridescent, and was composed of layered buttercream swaths…and is the inspiration for this cake! I had originally planned to pipe some beautiful buttercream leaves—as Lisa does!—but mine would never be as full of movement and naturalistic beauty as hers…
