My Why?
@theactorshome challenged me to make a post about My Why and I found it incredibly difficult to put My Why into words because a) it’s so personal and b) to be honest - it changed over time.
But I shall be brave and try to take you on a little journey of My Why:

What you’re seeing is a girl who loved to dance. I danced throughout my entire childhood and adolescence. And it was clear from the very beginning that this is something I was good at. Something I was “the best” in. Where I was noticed. Where I was seen and most importantly where I FELT seen. Being on stage, expressing myself through dance (and later singing), it was a feeling I had nowhere else. On stage, I was allowed express my “light”, I was allowed to be “big” without being too much, to let out my giant energy. All things that were inappropriate in other places, but here it was exactly right and that was a wonderful release and sense of belonging.
I landed my first ever screen acting job and by some freaking miracle, it was the biggest movie of the year in Germany, maybe the decade, was nominated for an Oscar and full of INCREDIBLE adult actors. The best in the business. I loved every day on that set. I loved every person on that set. I loved every moment of that experience, every aspect of that world. I knew this is what I wanted to do forever. It was like the feeling of being on stage - but with more snacks.
“Charlie goes to Hollywood” my grandpa said from that moment on.
Eventually, I auditioned and got in to drama school and left everything I knew behind. I had the best two years of my life at my program. Too intense, too eventful to elaborate here but just know: it changed me completely and beautifully. This is where My Why started to shift from being about me (this beautiful feeling of being allowed to be loud and big and shine bright) to being about people and the world. I wanted to make people feel something, think something, learn something, to reflect and connect. That graduation day, I remember so well the pride, the joy and the hope I felt. Now, the life I wanted to live could finally start.

For the past 10 years, I have taken new headshots every year. Because what they tell us actors is that the headshot is the most important part of the equation - the key that opens the door. So, naturally, I’ve been searching for that magical headshot-key for as long as I’ve been in this industry. I have not found it yet and I’m starting to think that a magical headshot that makes all the casting directors click on your profile does not exist. Here’s to the hope that the headshots I took a couple of weeks ago are the last ones I’m taking in a long long time. 🍀
