An unforgettable day trip to the Radiant City in Marseille 20 years ago today while a resident at the @la_napoule_artfoundation has had quite a profound impact on my current work. The lingering memories of the béton brut exterior balanced by the warm wood elements throughout the interior and the punctuations of bold colors are most definitely manifesting in the studio.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARLOS!
This photo taken at @theshopnola looks like I’m asking myself for a dance. Thanks to @megankoza for organizing this artist talk. It’s amazing what you can learn about your own practice hearing your thoughts said out loud.

Recent work from a challenging series that has been slowing unfolding in the studio. The red was finally painted nearly a month after the blue. I painstakingly attempt to recreate colors that elicit response or emotional resonance which I verily may be confusing with nostalgia. The colors aren’t confidently tethered to any direct memory which makes it difficult to pin down. The fascinating thing for me is that the quality of the memories that feed into nostalgia is often uncertain and somehow even through a veil of vagueness is still capable of prompting deep emotion.

My view for the past week on Buck Creek, Ashley casting flies, and a visit to the Bascom. A favorite textile piece by Amy Putansu on view there.
We met several cool ‘river jerks’, made sillies with friends, and absorbed a bit of the temperate forest magic. Looking forward to the next adventure.
