Andy: We were worried about being '60s copyists or whatever, you know, because we were really into a lot of '60s music. Byrds, Beatles, Velvet Underground, Stooges, Doors, whatever, [Bob] Dylan, you now? And that's really the background we came from. And then, that, kind of, fused with bands like the [Jesus and] Mary Chain and Cocteau Twins really, kind of, made us get up and go for it.
Stephen: In some ways, it was almost Dylan that prompted us to get a guitar more than anything. But then, it was really the Mary Chain when we were around 15, kind of, spurred us to think, "well, we can go and do this," you know, which is what we did in the end, although it took about three years from that point 'til we got a band together when we were 18. I think it takes a good five years before any kind of band can trigger people to develop to a point where they can start a band of their own... and, rather than being a musical influence, it's more of, like, a catalyst just to make you do what you wanna do rather than go and recreate what someone else has done.
