The beliefs survived long after the truth is gone because someone was mischievous enough that to stop them fear was used and then the fear became the tradition we are forced to follow. Maybe.
The “flowers” part isn’t really about flowers. It’s about permission — the quiet, invisible permission to enjoy something fleeting, something beautiful without needing to justify it logically. That hits home because so many of us reject softness or sentimentality under the disguise of practicality.
Sometimes, in trying to sound rational or “above” emotional things, we cut ourselves off from small, simple joys. And when we finally let them in, even briefly, they remind us how alive we are.
